Knocking Newage Shocks - Fixed

as detailed over on sidc, i have tried the white lithium grease temporary fix to the problem of knocking newage struts. 15min job...wheel off, lifted up the dust cover to the piston, a few squirts of lithium grease, wheel back on...and...no knocking. i know its a temporary fix but am happy with it. :thumb:

Could you point me to this fix please?

Here you go

i took my wheel off though, as it was easier to get to. the white lithium grease is sold in halfords and is made by 3-in-1.

it is only a temporary measure, as stated in the article...new shocks is eventually the way to go. however, in the meantime, mine has stopped knocking so thats a good thing. hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I'll stop off at Halfords on the way home ;)

You could mount the can to the strut with a plunger so every time you went over a big bump it squirted a little more grease in! (This is obviously a joke before anyone is stupid enough to actually try it, but if you do try it, let us know how it works!).

Or you could strip the shock down and clean the old grease/water/muck out and pack with fresh grease. It does the job nicely.

If you strip the strut make sure you engage the small flats at the end of the damper rod before tightening the nut on reassembly. If this gets damaged then it is near impossible to get the nut off next time as it will just spin in the damaged hole.
