Non Turbo MY04, Things to Look Out for?

Good morning peoples,

After purchasing my non turbo, i've been reading about faults with the turbo version that can/will happen over time

And i was just wondering, what are the more common faults to go wrong with mine?

I do know about the rear shocks being a common fault though

Ta :D

Nothing. They don't have any real weakness.

Hiya - I have a non turbo too that I picked up the other weekend. Great fun and loving every min of driving it!!

Can I ask what is the attraction of a non turbo Impreza? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just wondering because they aren't particularly attractive or cheap to run in terms of fuel and servicing.

They're not ballistic quick like the turbo's but they still are an entertaining drive.

With the same AWD security/handling it's bigger brother shares.

I started my Impreza journey with a 2000 Sport...and it was a great fun car...just not quick enough!

Ha ha! Yes that is true, women do look sexy driving performance cars whereas men almost universally look like nobs!

PERVERT! Lol joke.

Can't go wrong with the AWD and i'm sure it would still be great fun.

Thanks
Sam

Valid question...but there are many attractions to owning one. The main being the Subaru AWD, and the great handling and technology it includes, as well as the fantastic repuation the non-turbo's have for reliability (as Setright pointed out, there are NO known issues to "look out for". The rear shocks issue is with Newage STI's only.)

Looks is relative and down to taste, but with all cars, with a little tweeking, aesthetics can be improved dramatically.

As for running costs, my GX ALWAYS averages 30mpg or more, which is a good deal more than what most of my friends running turbo's say they acheive... My insurance is 75% cheaper than the best quote I could find for a standard Turbo 2000 - and that includes all the modifications I've made, fully comp.

To be fair, the tax bracket is the same which is a little frustrating but no more than any other 2.0 petrol car.

Servicing would be undoubtedly cheaper due to a non-turbo being naturally driven less "enthusiastically" and having less mechanics on the car to be replaced or "go wrong".

I hope that answers your question anyway mate, and as stated, a lot of people find non-turbo's as a step towards turbo ownership and being part of the Subaru brand.

Helen, dont suppose you went to Modified Nationals this year?

Addaz_206 15 October 2010 06:58 PM

The reason it attracted me? Im 17 :D

So no other weak points that i should check? As nothing really phases me to be perfectly honest

And yes, before you ask i bought it out of my own money selling one of my other cars :)
