It's you that should be dicussing it, with the person who did the job! |
phone around and get some quotes for the same job and see what the result is
|
Is this quoted or what you've been charged?
Took me a couple of hours to fit boost, oil press, oil temp and AFR |
13 hours.. im sure you could have done them yourself in that time! doubt a garage would take the job on if it took them a full day!
|
If it's the usual compliment of Boost, oil pressure and oil temp located on top of the dash in a pod, then I believe a 2-4 hours labour would be much more like it!
13 seems very excessive!!!! |
Gulp, sort of depends on how the car was presented. If the car went in tip top and no problems were encountered WTF were they doing for nearly 2 days money !:cuckoo:
|
Took me a full day to do my three, BUT: there was lots of thinking and checking time, plus plenty off coffee breaks.
About 8 hours in all, but only about 3-4 if you know what you are doing and just work at it. |
name and shame that garage you could build half an engine in that time
|
im not a mechanic and i fit , boost, oil temp and pres, wired in and operating in 1 and a half hours
|
What was the labour charge per hour ?
|
Even the most incompetent moron could fit in half that time. IMO you have had your pants pulled down!

We know a few of these :norty::norty: Even I could do it in less time than that and I'm a lazy incompetant. |
**** me:eek::eek: You could take up a college course in re-wiring and mechanics and do it quicker than that:lol1: Shouldnt take a compitent garage any more than 2.5hrs to fit 3 gauges, unless problems occur.
|
which gauges is it? not all are as simple as others, but 13 hours does, on the face of it, seem a bit ott

I have just been charged £185 plus vat (5 hrs) for fitting 3 genuine Defis, the Advance link plus oil sandwich plate.
Seems reasonable. Cheers Steve |
When I bought my car I got a receipt for the purchase and fitting of 3 prosport stepper gauges in with the service history, it didnt outline the cost of purchase and labour, but I think the gauges are around 50 quid'ish each... and the invoice total was £450!!!
Previous owner must have been mental :cuckoo: |
I know just one garage(Power Engineering),which fitted turbo timer with harness for 8 hours in Uxbridge....and 13 hours for fitting gauges is TOP
|
|
If you were only charged £5 per hour then the 13 hours isn't too bad
I fitted a set of Defi's to my old car in about an hour and half using a sandwich plate for the oil temp and pressure. Wiring couldn't be easier, all can be connected to the radio wiring harness if you know what does what, 2 minutes on the web sorted that out. |

Took me about 4-6 hrs to remove mine properly so i would imagine the same to fit..

I once fitted my own gauges with some mates. It took us nearly 9 hours :lol1:
I think the problem was that only one of us was mechanically minded, the other was electrically adept and then there was me :lol1: |
Rip off! think scoobyworld quote 4hrs labour...plus the cost of prosport gauges is approx £420.
|
 It only took me about 3 hrs to swap a V5 dash, including a tea break.
I am about to do gauges and there's a guide in the General Technical Archive. Looking at about 2 to 3 hrs. |
|
This sounds like a wind up tbh

The trouble with these sorts of threads is they lack one thing.. The other side of the story! |
