FMIC: Perrin vs Japspeed
Im going to be buying an FMIC soon, i want to try and keep costs down but quality up. I have looked at these 2 intercoolers and there is not a lot of difference between the 2 apart from price. Japspeed £299 delivered and the Perrin £1600 delivered. With the perrin am i just paying for the name or is it really as good as it says? Im in no way going to exceed 600bhp so the bhp handeling of the 2 is not a problem. has any body had any expereance of the 2 or any charge temp figures?
Here is a list of features between the 2. JAPSPEED * Bar and plate intercooler 25x9x3.5 Inch. * 3 Inch inlet and 3 Inch outlet. * High flowing hand made end tanks. * Fully TIG welded. * Polished aluminium pipework. * All necessary clamps and silicone hoses. * Maximum cooling capacity while allowing for minimal pressure drops. * 1050cfm @ 0.5 psi drop. * Capable of handling up to 600BHP. PERRIN * Bar and plate intercooler 28x9.25x3.5 Inch. * 2.25 Inch inlet and 2.75 Inch outlet. * High flowing hand made end tanks. * Fully TIG welded. * Aluminium pipework. * All necessary clamps and silicone hoses * 1/4 psi drop across the core at 20 psi * A volume of 906.5 cu-in * Capable of more then 1000BHP Cheers, Mike. |

Hi Mike if you really want quality for reasonable price, good choice for you is HDI(which selling the Harvey).HDI are tested and proven by many people here.

Don't buy ANYTHING without talking to Harvey Smith first.
PM him on here, or e-mail him. |

im sure even if the cheaper one isnt AS good, youll have an extra £1300 to play around with to spend on other stuff which could recover any lost gains from the cheaper FMIC

i had the hdi installed on my 03 sti with md321t etc
i then installed the perrin and its a easier fit and looks better perrin is 1200 not 1600 i got mine from scoobyclinic steve |

I've got a Perrin one here waiting to go on my car and I got it for a whole lot less than £1200 :lol1: quality looks amazing tbh. Very high class welds. The whole thing reeks of quality :thumb:

The problem with newage HDI ones is how the pipe goes under the car, ive flattened mine on speed bumps

Why did you change from the hdi to the Perrin ?
Just looks ? Was there any differance in the performance between the two ? Andy i also managed to knock 9 degrees of timing off compared to the hdi so performance is better also on a plus side i got to keep my original recirc dump valve steve |

Mine was one that Graham Goode found in the back of the store room!! It didn't come with the coolant bottle but according to them it should fit ok with the OEM one in place.
I was also advised against the HDI one for the same reason as stated above. you might be able to just fabricate a coolant bottle its quite simple as it only has one hole in the top and the original coolant cap goes over to the new one steve |
Hi guys, thanks for all your replys, been doping a bit of reading and now my heart is telling me to go for the Perrin cooler as I see alot of people have gone for it and had great results. Tbh I would prefer to spend a bit more for security and the Perrin has proven results.
Thanks again. Mike. |

@bodski
the reason for this is that the instrcutions are for americanos if you look at Page 3 section 17) you will see in the pic that the coolant bottle is situated on the drivers side and not the passenger side as with uk cars http://www.perrinperformance.com/pro...ory=39&model=2 perrin have never issued uk instructions and probably wont but i would think about getting in contact perrin them ask for ADAM and he should be able to sort you out on the coolant bottle hope this helps steve |
Would this be the coolent bottle you need mate for the perrin ?
