*** Newage 2 door type R ***

OK, following on from my old project car...

https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...-the-road.html

which is now my daily driver, and serving me well, I thought it about time to show what I am getting up to next...

I am planning on creating a newage 2 door coupe.

As far as I know there aren't any that I feel have been done properly.

Sure there have been some cars where the rear doors were welded up, but still retained the original size front door, which is not what I am after.

I could also do a short wheelbase jobbie, like Simon Norris' EVO, but again not what I am after.

Those that know me well, will know that I have been talking and planning this car for the last couple of years.

However, there have been small areas that I just couldn't work out how to do, or sort out.

I think I have sorted most areas out, and those that I haven't sorted out in my head I'll just have to work out as I go along..

In keeping with the old classic type R style of 2 door, I plan on keeping the length and wheelbase of the car as original.

I am going to have longer doors, a relocated B post and a nice rear quarter panel all in proportion.

Obviously I am also going to need longer door glass, longer door trims etc.., shorter rear quarter glass, and so on..

Now, I have a choice of 2 donor cars, depending on how confident I feel.

The first is this 2003 STi type UK bodyshell...

Attachment 66341

Great basis, and if it goes all wrong then so what...

The only problem is that there is no running gear at all, which could cost a few pennies to complete, allied to the fact that it is also up for sale at the moment..:Whatever_

The other donor car is this...

Attachment 66342

Attachment 66343

Which is also great, because all the running gear etc is done and complete, but I could end up with a worthless bodyshell. :cuckoo:

Anyways, that's what I am upto, and hopefully we should see some progress over the next few months..

This is going to be absolutely awesome. I can't wait to see this build progress.
NBO car of the day 2011 me thinks !!!

chrisevo2000 06 October 2010 08:13 PM

Mate,I have always wondered what a two door newage would look like.
Your white car is beautiful. It would be a shame to butcher it,but,on the other hand,it would look ****ing amazing,as a two door.
Look forward to seeing the finished article.
Chris

The GRD was basically just a wide arch kit over the rear door, using the normal size front door.

I'll need all the luck I can get. :D

It would be a shame to cut the white one up, but all will be explained in due course.
Cheers. :thumb:

beef-on-the-bone 06 October 2010 09:09 PM

sounds good :)

as above really, would be a crime to chop up the white one, but if it re-emerged as a coupe.........

Neil.. 06 October 2010 09:21 PM

One of the first things I had to work out, was the proportions of the conversion, and where exactly to move the B post to, along with how much longerer to make the doors..

I am pretty lucky where I am, in that there are always a few Subaru's knocking about, and I needed to measure up the proportions of the classic 2 and 4 door bodyshell, and compare the dimensions of the glass and doors to the newage shell.

I then measured the newage shell and I have come up with a magic number...

13

So the doors, door glass, door weather strips, interior door cards, door seals etc are going to be 13cms longer.

Obviously that means that the B post will be 13cms further back, and everything else will be 13cms different in some way or another...

I have made a start to the 'project' today, and threads like these are excellent in generating enthusiasm, which is one of the reasons I have started the thread.

THE main problem I am going to encounter however as the project unfolds, will be funds.

I will get to a point pretty soon where by I will need to spend serious dosh in order to create a complete new car from scratch, which would have to be an improvement from my previous car.

We shall see.........:freak3:

Looking forward to this:cool: Please dont cut the white car up:cry: Give it to me:D

frayz 06 October 2010 11:03 PM

Do the white one Neil!

I know 100% that you can do it and wont end up with a butchered shell. It will be kin' epic to see this actually done and done properly. Doing the white one will also save you doing all the things youve done already all over again.

With you 100% mate, cant wait to see this :thumb:

Gotta have a name change on eth thread.

belliott69 06 October 2010 11:37 PM

the white car would look stunning if it went right but as you say if it went tits up then its ruined. whatever happens i'm well looking foward to this one.

bioforger 07 October 2010 12:31 AM

Saved :) def chop the white one, would be more cost effective that way I would of thought? Anyway it was a burnt out shell before u started so heaven knows why you think you might bodge it for this :)

allsop83 07 October 2010 05:08 PM

+1 , look at what you did to the burnt out shell!! Created ART!! Lol.

with your skills I am 100% certain you can get the white car looking even better in 2 door guise :)

rossi_p 08 October 2010 10:44 AM

I tip my cap to you sir. Taking on a huge project and judging on previous builds, like the white one above, it will be be stunning!

This will be an epic thread.

wrathchild_78 08 October 2010 01:00 PM

we all have great expectations from you (judging from the previous project).

keep us informed mate!

BLU 08 October 2010 03:04 PM

Please don't chop the white one :(, its perfect as it is. Use the blue shell (sod flogging it) take your time and get the running gear as you go along. May cost a few quid but it'll be bloody worth it!! :thumb:

samo 08 October 2010 04:08 PM

It would be a great shame to cut up the white one, its a "work of art"...... But if you do, can I have the reverse scoop please:thumb::D

beef-on-the-bone 08 October 2010 10:23 PM

have to admit my first thought was a subaru clone of the norris evo; swb, roof chop etc

but can imagine all the hassle involved with the extra fabrication and modified parts needed would be immense..........

Neil.. 09 October 2010 02:48 AM

P-13 has claimed me first time.....

A+E for me, grinding sparks and eyes don't mix...:freak3:

One door frame is nearly done, pics to come soon. :)

Cheers for all comments, I do not want to chop my white car to be honest, but I will explain more when I'm not quite so..........erm, well, you know ;)
