I personally think that private landowners should be allowed to clamp vehicles left on the property.

The problem came with the total absence of regulation. It would have been better, I think, if they had come up with a framework for operators to work within, rather than a complete ban :wonder:

Although I now need to rething how we stop people parking in our residential parking where I live. Oh well.

I believe you can still issue tickets, and they will now be legally enforceable provided the charges are reasonable and fair. What you can't do is hold someone's car to ransom.

I think that there should certainly be protection for people from having unwanted cars parked on their private property.

The problems arose of course by allowing rogue clamping firms to effectively print money with their charges.

If you don't want parking on your property then a notice to that effect should be good enough, and if people ignore that then they should not be allowed to get away with it. The clamping firms by the same token were showing incredible greed and I think some of them have been lucky to get away without a show of violence even. Towing cars away should have been liable to a charge of theft.

Someone parking on my land uninvited would risk me getting the trolley jack out and leaving their vehicle in the the road, yellow lines or not. If someone is polite enough to ask first, that is a different matter.
