Vectra VXR....

Hey Folks....have had a Honda Accord Type R this last few months for daily driving and to keep the scoob in fairly good order and keep the miles down, but have recently took a great liking for a Vectra VXR :norty:

So....any owners of one on here??

Hit me with your opinions on these cars, are they powerful, fast, practicable, fun, sturdy??

I know they have 280bhp standard and FWD but would appreciate some opinions please on what to look for and what best to avoid when looking for one ;)

Many thanks....

Kevin :)

Been through this before - TG are donkeys.

Try this thread recently posted - https://www.scoobynet.com/other-marq...azda6-mps.html

And also have a read of EVO's review and bare in mind this is the 255ps version of the car they are reviewing not the updated 280ps versions - http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/carg..._bmw_330i.html

Basically TG hates Vauxhalls - they did similar with the pre-release Astra VXR that wasn't properly sorted. Made fun of the torque steer, put 1000s off buying them, now quoted by those not in the know.

The Vectra VXR is a very decent motor. Not my cup of tea but very quick and accomplished. The Insignia VXR also looks very good indeed.

Again - my guess is you've never driven one or been in one and are basing your comments on TG footage or similar :nono:

Granted the Vectra is never going to keep pace with a Scooby or an EVO in the twisties and if it's a wet road there's little or no point in switching the "Sport" button on (especially in a remapped VXR), but the handeling is not as bad as some make it out to be. Infact if you add add some uprated performance springs and get the geometry sorted by TMS - it's a very balanced car that corners very well indeed.

End of the day, I would suggest you take one out and try it, or at the very least get a ride from someone so you can make up your own mind up.

I'll leave you with a couple of pics of mine........

Thanks folks....gonna go to the dealers for a test drive in one on Friday, although its an 08 model so will probably be outta my price range....im looking for the earlier 06/07 model but am now wondering, do the earlier ones only have 255bhp compared to 280bhp in the later models??:wonder:

That black one above is awsome looking, really liking that :)

STI Mav 11 August 2010 07:19 PM

Anything pre 07 is likely to be the 255ps version, some of the 07's were 280ps but not many of them. To be honest though a remap in either will see it reach 300/400 so it doesn't really matter assuming your planning to do the remap at some point.

Is that true or just Intermyth? If it is true then why would vauxhall put out a sub-standard product to the press?

Matteeboy 12 August 2010 12:00 PM

Rabbos - I don't know the details but I think they "made" Vx give them a pre-production model and it wasn't properly sorted. Seen a few things about it across the net.

Strangely the mag review was pretty glowing.

I bet you do......

I just love that the whole thing looks like a Groucho Marx disguise, eyebrows and all.

Test one, you will be really suprised at how accomplished a car it is. I have a late 08, 280 model and it is excellent for a little jolly when you fancy it, or a perfect cruser when you are ferrying the family about. Makes a lovely noise too!!

Nothing to much to go wrong with these cars. Had a recall for the expansion tank which should get replaced under warranty. I am presently getting 24 mpg town driving only. On a run on the motorway you should see high 30's and if you really try early 40's.

In gear times a very impressive out of a box. Will live with Focus RS, 350Z's, E36/E46 M3's and standard Sti's all day (in the dry for an Sti).

Do it, do it now!!!:norty:

lol, love it :D
See the excuse from the RS owner? "clutch problems", on a new car? yeah right, either its been ragged off the line all the time or it couldnt put the power down ;)

Tony:)

They are decent cars. Get a bit naff once they get leggy, so look for a nice low miles one.

P1Fanatic 18 August 2010 02:08 PM

Tbh it was fairly apparent the RS didnt get a proper start and was clearly catching the VXR until it backed off at the end of the run.

Would be nice as a sleeper but having been burnt with vauxhalls before (engines made out of chocolate) I doubt Id touch even a VXR.

He starts to catch the VXR as the VXR driver misses third gear.

The engine I believe is a GM unit principally made for Saab. Should be decent for reliability.

Vauxhall engines made of chocolate? Hahaha. I think not.

I am an ex VX nut and have had my fair share of them all of which were bomb proof. They are renound in the tuning world.
