whats the difference between a td04l and a tf035 turbo??

just got a tf035 for my bug wrx it had a td04l on it but i iv been told there is no difference but just wondering if any1 know what models the tf035 were fitted to and if they are any good, iv been told this one is off a blobeye 2004

Splitpin 21 July 2010 10:59 PM

TF035 is smaller than a TD04. What you've been told is incorrect. There is a difference, and these turbos have never been factory fitment on the Impreza. The one you've got is probably from a Forester.

cheers for the helpless comment, it was advertised as a TD04L off a blobeye when it turned up it had no markings saying td04....so cheers for that comment....

That's incorrect Butty. There's no such thing as a "TD035". As per my earlier post, the smaller turbo fitted to the Forester is called a TF035 - and that, as the picture demonstrates, is what Auto Sparky has got.

Good result, glad the seller's played it with a straight bat. And there is one turbo that will fit any car. The trouble is that it would be the wrong turbo for virtually all of them.

Drat - I've been splitpin'd. :o
I once owned a Forester and the turbo was always refered to as a TD035 - I wonder why :wonder:

If it really was fitted to an Impreza, I bet the owner was puzzled by its performance.

every1sgottablue1 23 July 2010 12:34 AM

Blimey, that turbo makes the TD04 look big!

+1

That's what I thought! Proportionally, it looks akin to a 16g next to a 20g! ;)

Manifold

Chaps, this thread maybe dead but is the inlet and outlet manifold the same fitment?
I mean is it really possible to just bolt a TF035 where a TD04 belongs?

Yes they were a possible upgrade path for Glanza's too CT9,TF,TD,VF all same IIRC

So should have matching flanges,

At lest it should fit.

Need help on similar issue?!

I have a 08 Wrx Impreza, had a nasty knock so I had a shop replace the 2.5l with the 2.0l. They left the original turbo on because it didn’t require any exhaust or piping work. Now that turbo went on me, it’s a TF035HM. What turbo set up should I go with so I don’t need a tune?
