i have a rotated gt30 on a standard 2.5 making 450.6bhp, no problems so far touch wood.

stealthy55 17 July 2010 06:24 PM

why dont you go for a bigger "bolt on" and save a load of money?

fmp 17 July 2010 06:25 PM

does a GT30 have to be rotated?

Or will it squeeze into the original space?

jd5217 17 July 2010 06:32 PM

Standard GT30 wont fit, however there are a number of GT30 hybrids that use the stock location.

TurboDynamics MD555 range is one.

yeah but aint that slow?;)

Ciaran 17 July 2010 06:38 PM

Cost of getting a custom rotated set up made and buying a turbo excluding wastegate is pretty similar in price to buying a custom hybrid GT30

banny sti 17 July 2010 07:13 PM

Yes a proper turbo like rotated GT30R

totally standard? if so good luck:thumb: will be interesting to see comparisons:) bearing in mind theres a "built" 2.0 classic not doing a lot of power to justify rotated imo

stealthy55 17 July 2010 07:50 PM

banny, can you please explain "proper heads" and "jun cams" before this thread turns into a dick waving" bolt on vs rotated" ;)

banny sti 17 July 2010 09:47 PM

The engine in mine is a built 2 litre not a standard engine, this is a stop gap till my 2.35 is built. That engine willl have the heads ported and polished, over sized 1 piece valves, titainium retainers, jun 272 cams, shimless buckets and jun vernier pulleys. Only fitted the rotated stuff as i was bored and wanted to tinker with the car, i know its going to be laggy as fook but should be a laugh on boost lol

scubbay 17 July 2010 10:21 PM

properly mapped you wont need that 2,35 ever

carl heath 17 July 2010 10:25 PM

what would a 2.35 cost to build approx and would they use my original my02sti lump as a starting point or is it not a cdb.sorry if i sound like i dont know anything about rebuilt engines but i dont ! lol.

banny sti 17 July 2010 10:30 PM

I just bought a 2nd hand 2.35 for a friends car for 3.5, so to build one you are probably looking closer to 5k.

carl heath 17 July 2010 11:09 PM

would that be for a reputable builder to buy bits, build and fit ? drive in drive out,job done bar mapping ?

gus sti8 18 July 2010 11:21 AM

gus sti8 18 July 2010 11:21 AM

It is being mapped on a simtek, so going to try a map with 20% methanol hopefully that should get it over 500 @ 1.9 bar ish :)

Banny,

Clive's P1 is a built 2.0L with RCM Cams (virtually identical to the jun stuff) that has a GT30R on it and made 567bhp with 20% Methanol. It also isnt that laggy admittedly it doesnt spool like my 2.5 used to with one on but its certainly very very driveable.

Fat Boy 19 July 2010 10:21 AM

I have a built 2 litre P1 with an old RCM hybrid turbo on it (GT35/P20 hybrid) plus the RCM cams as well - not too laggy either in that it's up and going from 3800.

Had a roll on test against someone in a 2.1 engined p1 with an MD321T from about 60mph on Friday night and to say he was surprised is an understatement -admittedly he was two up whereas there was only me in my car.

Clive was there as well, but we went separate ways - next time I'd be curious to see how much quicker his is as I have a rotated 30r kit to go on, but I'm now having second thoughts about whether I should bother or not.

If you get the chance get Clive to take you for a run in his, that WILL make your mind up!! :) You'll swap

Last minut decision to usd e a syvecs ecu, mapped the car with 15% methnol and ended up with 522.5 bhp and its waaaay to quick on boost for a road car but a rush to drive :)
