Tssss Tsss Tsss noise on boost

umm, well il start with issues with check light flashing on full boost, simtek ecu. so started this thread, and put it down to bad fuel

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...ntum-fuel.html

so today i filled up and put bottle of nf octane in tank too.

went for blast and in 3rd 6000rpm check light flashed again.

so i then eased off in 4th and flat to floor in 5th no check light on but

then i could hear a rapid tss tss tss tss tss tss noise.

so it seems like a leak or something.

iv changed nothing under bonnet, checked hoses seemed fine.

any ideas where to start.

the tss noise isnt like the dump vale tssss, its a short sharp rapid tsss lol

cars a v4 wrx, fully forged, remapped. etc etc

any ideas people, doing my nut :brickwall

how does it go?lol

The Stitcher 16 July 2010 09:26 PM

i think your going mad lol

my car flashes the sel only when it hits the very high revs and only now and again too but i just turn a blind eye to it as i have been told that some can be very sensitive and pick up other sounds that are not det

could your dump valve be sticking or leaking ???

JonMc 16 July 2010 09:28 PM

boost solenoid, although that would be more of a clicking, or maybe the wastegate:?

on a serious note it sounds like the wastgate could be creeping, maybe the actuator is duff?

mje_wrx 16 July 2010 09:51 PM

i av one on a 18g turbo sitting in garage, can i just fit that on now n test

mje_wrx 16 July 2010 10:03 PM

as long as the arm is the same lenth,im not shore what spring rating each one has but if it will fit then give it ago mate, could also be your solinoid that cotrols the actuator?what boost control you got factory or after market?

mje_wrx 16 July 2010 10:25 PM

factory, simtec ecu

well i like to think the main control is good then[simtec:thumb:] so id try the actuator first and then the soliniod mate and go from there

burbling1 16 July 2010 11:13 PM

I very much doubt its your wastegate as when your on full boost it will be opening anyways to prevent overboost.

I suspect if you have a vta then the spring is probably getting weak.

didnt think of that as i thought you might be running standard but it depends on how much boost your running?

mje_wrx 17 July 2010 12:06 AM

1.4 peak to 1.1 i built engine myself from crank up. nothing is standard lol

nice 1 fella,if you've got an adjustable one then certainly try that first as it could just be set to low and then move on,well done on doing it yourself though saves the pound notes dont it mate

big time, there is now nothing i cant do, except map lol, just its handy to other ppl opinions before starting to diagnose under bonnet

joz8968 17 July 2010 10:45 AM

To rule out whether your blitz VTA BOV is to blame, then temp. swap back to the OEM DV to act as a control test...

(Personally I'd leave the OEM one in situ, whatever! :D)

mje_wrx 17 July 2010 04:53 PM

never came with a oem one. well today i reved engine hard and at high revs the dump vale was just dumping air out, still on throttle. so adjust screw in and reved again. didnt loose the pressure. yet to test drive. will be doing it now. misses makes food at bad times haha

thought it would turn out to be the spring had backed off glad to hear your getting there with it though mate

amydove2001 17 July 2010 06:02 PM

I've just had my car in with the same problem. The noise was like the dump valve wanted to dump the pressure but couldn't coz it was getting trapped or bypassed. it turned out to be the solanoid. The pipe had broke off but still looked as though it was connected, it broke off with the connector in the end of the pipe, So it was loosing pressure just as it was ready to dump it hence the funny noise.

mje_wrx 17 July 2010 08:44 PM

well i just drove it and now it doesnt dump when going slow like it used to, but does when booted, also no hiss noise when full boost. to be honest felt quicker, first time in a while it scared me lol :D best i speak 2 simon. by screwing the screw in iv put more pressure on spring, so need more pressure to open dump valve.

i am going spend few hours when i get more time checking all the pipes as sometimes it bounces on idle and cuts of when first started, so may still av a leak somewhere. just need time.

spend hours under other people cars fixing them mine gets forgotten :( awwwww haha

also 320/320 with standard suspension isn't fun, its :cuckoo:
