Got my car on a weighbridge today - bugeye sti

the standard car without me in it camae in at

1440kg

is that normal for a newage bugeye sti, i thought they weighed more than that tbh, its in standard trim.

only weight reduction is titanium exhaust.

cheers

what are your newages weighing in at?

JonMc 13 July 2010 10:46 PM

I thought they were over 1.5 tonnes so that sounds quite good. That's more the weight I would expect for the Spec-C:?

nah its down to about £85 i thought in the current climate;)

eggy790 13 July 2010 10:49 PM

lol at nick

you know what i mean

as for the weight of my car, i was really impressed,

o it also doesnt have a spare tyre , so thats another 10kg

but all tools are there

i know the titanium cat back only weighs like 5kg so that must be where my biggest saving is.. the downpipe seems to weight the same as the standard catted pipe when i changed them..

either way im chuffed

as my mates jdm blobeye went on straight after and got 1570kg in same standard trim including spare tyre and his decatted nur spec exhaust..

we cant work out where he has the extra weight

both same breathing mods plus remap and his twinscroll is still quciker though lol, well by 1/2 car lengths lol

UK blob STi is 1470 kg 'by the book', not sure if this is a dry weight. I would have expected JDM to be a tad lighter if anything (IIRC the spec c comes in at 1385 kg). Think the bug STi, again UK, was pretty much the same weight as the blob version.

How much fuel did your mate have on board? 60 lts is about 45-50 kg. Does the DCCD add some weight to the JDM?

Finally, how accurate was the weighbridge? Callibration status? I'd expect weighbridges to be geared to measure 30 tonne road tankers rather than 1.5 tonne cars; if so, there could be significant errors in your weighings? Perhaps could have done a couple of weighings, the second with the order reversed for comparison.

eggy790 13 July 2010 11:13 PM

he had half a tank

i had a quarter tank as we were heading to petty station and saw the recycling centre with a truck on weigh bridge and we just stopped off

they weigh trucks all day everyday so got to be pretty accurate.

his ic spray bottle was also full as i had just filled that up with water from the fridge at my house (its de-ionised thru the filter)

mine was filled up the week before so must have half a tank of water in the ic tank?

eggy790 13 July 2010 11:14 PM

p.s. theres another weigh bridge at the other end of town, if i get a chance this sat , i'll pop down and see if they let me on for a second weighing

Did you see my edit? If the bridge is set up for weighing trucks there might be a significant error on your weighing.

eggy790 13 July 2010 11:19 PM

ahh right no worries, how far out could it be? i'll get it weighed again lol

TBH, no idea. It might be fine but certainly you have to use an appropriate scale e.g. you wouldn't use the same scale to weigh a mouse and an elephant. FCUK it's late lol, my brain hurts:lol1:. Have a word with the weighbridge operators, see what they say.

Perhaps the Spec C had 5 coats of paint unlike the normal one ;) LOL

Matt2732 14 July 2010 08:38 AM

Theres a weighbridge in the yard where I work I use twice a night. It weighs in 20kg increments. I remember once a couple of years ago they had a firm come in to calibrate it. As for exactly how accurate it is I dont know.

If, however, it was a public weighbridge it would have to be pretty damn close. If I get pulled over in my HGV onto a weighbridge and its overweight or an axle is overloaded I could be prosecuted. I'm sure this means that they would have to be pretty much on the money to be admissable in court.

eggy790 14 July 2010 09:57 AM

i dont think it's a public weight bridge , its for the recycling company, they weight trucks as they come in and out of the yard mate

Terminator X 14 July 2010 12:27 PM

My classic was corner weighted at 1240kg recently :smug: you'll need another 50hp just to keep up ;)

foobari 14 July 2010 02:03 PM

This is my 03 blobeye last year with me (~82kg) sitting in the car. I have cusco 6pt rollcage, removed spare tire, approx 1/2 tank of gas.

http://foobari.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Subaru...jpg/_small.jpg

So the net weight of the car with the cage is around 1475kg

eggy790 14 July 2010 02:26 PM

wilde1 14 July 2010 03:05 PM

The 2005 Spec C had less paint undercoats than the Normal STI, it also had thinner carpets, and lighter glass..... and if you think these are urban myths read the info half way down page 1 of this PDF file taken from the press release by STI Japan...... :luxhello:

to be legal for trade, ie you can use them to fine people for being overweight the most you'll ever be allowed is + or - 1% of applied load
