I was once up against one from rolling at about 15 mph.

I was in my old 96 WRX running 313 bhp.Now i'm assuming we where both in second gear here but we both nailed it at the same time as i heard his engine note change as mine did.Upto about the top end of 3rd gear i was edging ahead of him but by the end of 4th i was well away.I was very impressed by it in the first instance because if he had 300 it would have been a different story i'm sure.

BUT i'd still have a Focus ST :)

Which 3?

I had a great one against an 58 plate ST the other day. Annihilation is a word I'd use. He followed me so he could ask what I was running so I said panel filter and a remap

Sti 330s, Sti and WRXS.
Make that four now that the WRX is supplied with PPP added for free giving it 193 BHP per ton.

hhh1234 10 May 2010 03:41 PM

my mate has a vxr nurburb and he keeps up with me, good cars but as said in the wet they just wheel spin

ive an AVO aftermartket tmic for sale if your intrested direct bolt on pm me if intrested

rickya 10 May 2010 05:07 PM

Ten years on, with out any engine mods/map & running on UK fuel your probably running under 276bhp I would imagine.

Not true, I was out in one on Saturday with a Thorney remap... that thing shifted very very quickly through the soaking wet country lanes hitting 120mph whilst completely under control. I was very impressed..

None of which have as high a power to weight as the Type R in the OP's post so if that cannot see off the VXR these ain't going to either

Think your comment was a bit of wishfuil thinking frankly.

The best of your bunch is the 330 at 219hp/ton. The Type R is 223hp/ton, probably more as I think it weighs less than the standard 4 door.

i have destroyed many astra vxr's even when my type r was standard so your type r has either lost a lot of power or the vxr has gained a lot of power

imprezaworks 10 May 2010 05:48 PM

Im no expert but i would have thought the type r would have won fairly easily. Well maybe not easily but noticiblty.

evoke 10 May 2010 05:50 PM

My old Type R was a lot quicker than the VXR's in all area's.

Type R's are approximately 4.5 seconds to 60, surely not VXR should be close to that?!

paulbu 10 May 2010 05:52 PM

It's not wishful thinking, just plain fact. Subaru currently make four hatch models that would leave a standard VXR for dead. Even the slowest of them beats the Vauxhall to 100 mph by around 2 secs and a point to point on a B road would be no contest. Either the Type R in question is not the car that it was or the VXR has been modified, making it even more unpleasant to handle.

chris270181 10 May 2010 05:57 PM

i encounterd, one a couple of years ago, in my 93 wrx, the vxr seemed very quick but once i passed him, i pulled around 3 car lengths on him.. .so I think it will of been fettled, Also I have driven 2 vxr's and although quick i didnt think there was anything more performace wise over any imprezas. Just my opinion of course

chris cairns 10 May 2010 06:02 PM

i used to have a e36 328is modded to produce 235 bhp and raced my friend out of work in his vxr everyday and there was nothing in it if i was infront he could keep up but not get past and if he was infront i could keep up but not get past anyway i sold the beemer to get something a lot quicker a sti type r v5

Your comment was 'technology has moved on since the Subarus of the 90s' and while that may be so in some areas none of the cars you mention are as quick or as nimble as the Type R. Fact!

Last time I had a look over there, the Impreza was still the benchmark car to beat. ;)

Swings and roundabouts fella - both sides laying down some comments here that are heavily biased. I wouldn't say it was just the VXR boys who have blinkers on

mit 10 May 2010 09:37 PM

Ah, love it!
My cars faster than yours argument.
Both the VXR and scoob of various guises are good fast point to point cars, it has a lot to do with driver, and state of tune more than anything.
I have played with VXR's on the road, but my car is almost 300kg lighter, and 100bhp over a standard VXR, not to mention all the suspension mods, so it wouldn't be fair to claim VRX's are slow based on my experiences. One day i'll meet a tuned up one, and get my arse handed to me!!

scoobys are old hat simples i know plenty off people selling there scoobs for vxrs and focus st s spoke to a mate off mine who has over 400 bhp scoob the other day and said you will only see a difference when you get into top end figures hes thinkin off sellin his for this reason classic owner:eek:

basssound 10 May 2010 09:48 PM

I had a race with one about 6 weeks ago, both rolling at 40 I dropped into 2nd and we both floored it and honestly he wasn't that much quicker, over the lenth of maybe half a mile he pulled 4 maybe 5 car lengths ahead and thats it.
Came to the twisties and I was all over his bumper like poo to a blanket.
Saying that unless I was high up the revs he was gone like a bullet and I was left for dry.

Kinda thought wow they are rapid and I need alot more power, like 350+bhp!!!

Exactly, some of the VXR boys are as blinkered as Subaru owners. Apart from the Nurburg Edtn( not sure what it does 0-60 in) they aren't that quick really 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, compared to an Newage STI at 4.6. Though the Nurburg edtn is a lovely car and i would choose one over a WRX. At the end of the day they are two different cars but both great cars the VXR wins hands down in the looks department though:D

Once you start tuning them, well it's whoever throws the most money at them.

I'd love to have a play with one, but on a public road its more about risk and who cares about his car, the public, and his license the least:nono:

ive got both a vxr and a scooby and when r lass and i have a play the vxr certainly keeps up !! the vxr is quick in a straight line but scares you round the twisties wouldnt like to think of having 300 gee gees under its bonnet lol i feel more safer with 300 and awd lol both good cars though!! :thumb:

wiley 10 May 2010 10:07 PM
