Not a 335d, like in the vid Tony ... to get 400hp in a diesel you'd have to spend craaaazy money ;)

Nope :D saw one only last month that had been remapped (thats it ;)) 404bhp, 496lbs of torque, was an x5 though but same engine :D

Tony:)

Aaron1978 16 May 2010 08:56 PM

a 3.5 Bmw engine with a simple re map can go to 350bhp/516ftlbs:D as i'm looking into these at the moment. Just for £300.

OMFG - Do yourself a favour and get your blinkers off for god sake my friend.

Why is it so difficult to understand ?? A remapped Vectra produces 300bhp and 400 lbs/ft Torque and is only margionally heavier than a Hawkeye STI plus it's got no 4WD so transmission loss to deal with - in addition to that the Vectra has a twin scroll turbo which means minimizes lag some what. The Vectra I have now is as quick through the gears if not quicker than the STI with PPP that I have just sold, and that was running a proven 316/335 - plus top end they dont suffer from 4WD loss so it's just going to keep pulling away.

A standing start will always see the Vectra blitzed and no one has debated that - and add wet weather or country roads and the STI will quite honestly piss all over the Vectra all day long, but for god sake there are occasions when the STI will be beaten even by a Vauxhall

Lol at the under steer.

As previously noted - fuse was removed to switch off the traction control. What they didnt realise is that the IDS dampening and other suspension controls are managed through this fuse as well.

Handeling isn't in the same leauge as the Impreza, but it's not as bad as Clarkson made out.

what mpg are you getting out off the vectra because im buying one off these :thumb:

STI Mav 16 May 2010 10:18 PM

28mpg in and around town with "sensible driving" that's with the Bluefin installed. Motorway runs it's up around the 33-34mpg.

same as my scoob then do 50 miles a day and use 40 quids worth off juice lot off motorway driving:thumb:

I wonder if other car forums react so badly when their marque is beaten by another. :wonder:

FFS there are always quicker/faster cars out there and Subaru do not make the world's fastest cars, Impreza's are good point to point cars but in a straight line 4WD counts for very little except for the initial pulloff. :)

When I am out on the road in my Impreza I always let the morons who want to race me just pass me, I have nothing to prove and it no doubt gives them a boner to think they 'beat' an Impreza. :lol1:

There is a place for racing and it's called Mid Wales. :D

I think it is you who has the blinkers on, I have had vauxhalls of all various guises in the past only one I haven't had the luck of having is the vxr, you are trying to justify your new car on here with your own blinkers on. Where are you based as I would happily take you out in a wrx and you can have your rolling start and see the outcome.

Got to agree with this man, there is no way in the worl the veccy can put all that power down flat out in 1st 2nd 3rd & maybe even 4th will result in it loosing traction, its just not going to happen,

ffs i strugle with under 200bhp puting it down in 1st and second in a FWD Diesel

Had a properly tuned Escort mk4 with 400bhp and it was total ****, all gears appart from 4th and 5th had to be used on part throttle otherwise you just got tyre smoke (ATB diff, seam welded, koni suspension, 225 yoko's) fwd just cant cope with that power

And how does LAG affect it, sorry but if you can drive properly the only time you get any lag is on initial pull away, its not hard to change gear quickly so you dont get lag, guessing at about 0.5 - 1 second tops to go from one gear to the next does not realy give the turbo chance to spin down?

Quite obvious you've not been in a Vectra VXR - because frankly you dont have a clue. I've just part Ex'd my 06 Hawkeye STI impreza with PPP for this Vectra due to family reason (expecting our 2nd soon), had it not have been for that situation I would stll be in the Impreza. I know full well what they are capeable of and couldn't believe it myself when I installed the Bluefin on the Vectra - but "quick as f%^&" is the phrase that needs to be applied.

Of course traction is an issue which is why all of the comments made are about rolling performance not standing starts. The VXR chassis on the Vectra isn't actually as bad as people think and it's capable of getting power down fine from 3rd onwards, granted 2nd does light up the traction control light some what but it's getting power down towards the top of 2nd early part of the 3rd gear.

adam6900 16 May 2010 10:50 PM

and.... Who gives a **** that it will start to pull away after 120mph? its licence loosing speed anyway and it makes you a bit of a nob racing on the roads over those speeds!

by the time you get to 100mph any 4wd vs 2wd race with each car having 400 bhp will have been won, probably with the 4wd car being a good 50 yards infront thanks to grip

Never EVER is that car geting all its power down at any point in 2nd gear, would think it very unlikely in 3rd you just cant do it, maybe if it was RWD there would be a bit of hope but front wheel drive no never going to happen

Well if you bought a FWD car to be fast on a track thats even more silly!

adam6900 16 May 2010 10:59 PM

310 bhp in fwd (a very well set up car to) keep a eye on the wheel spin even in 4th

Escort weighs in at a tad under one ton evo is 1.6 so the power to weigh is there just not the grip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UHvLOZh9v4

And before you say it.... i dont think scoobys are the tits, i actuly think they are a bit ****! but 4wd and a turbo gives fun and lots of it for the money, would have a evo anyday over the scooby but would NEVER buy another fwd car for fun in my life!

At least read his comments properly, he never bought it for track:thumb:

Sti Mav is far from blinkered, and as for the argument over 100mph even racing within the limit is illegal.

adam6900 16 May 2010 11:10 PM

yep rwd not quite as good as 4wd but you can get a hell of a lot more power down through the rear than you can the front, and yes i would by a vauxhall, but only a monaro as its the only proper car they have ever made

LOL would like to see a copper take you to court for "pulling away fast" along side another car they have to prove the intention to race from both drivers to get a conviction bit of a grey area only resulting in a conviction if your thick enough to tell the copper you were racing each other

Exactly the reson why i would buy it! Small block chevy v8 lump and RWD the only "vauxhall" i would ever buy and only any good due to vauxhall not "making" it

So are you saying it doesn't happen and that the judge would believe you over two police officers or even one for that matter?

LOL but them tuned evo's are realy slow all that transmition loss :P

:wonder:

Have you any idea what you're arguing about?

I'd like to know where you get your info from, and especially know why adam thinks a vectra and a sti both running 400bhp would result in the sti being 50 yards in front by 100mph and a race being won? are we talking drag racing? or just racing to the Subaru's strengths?

adam6900 16 May 2010 11:36 PM

Yes Innocent untill proven guilty, prove the intention to race = conviction how do you prove the intention? you cant unless admited to at the time of the offence or in interview,

2 cars can pull away of the lights flat out up to the speed limit just like one can on its own, as long as the driver is in control of the vehicle no offence has happend

And yes been there seen it done it & gone to court still got a clean licence from the day i passed my test
