FMIC PRO'S & CONS

HI ALL, JUST TOYING WITH THE IDEA OF FITTING A FMIC, ARE THE ADVANTAGES WORTH THE PAYOUT?, ALREADY HAVE 3" FULL DECAT, AND PANEL FILTER.:wonder:

Depends on what your aiming to achieve really..... If your happy with how the car's current performance is then stay with the top mount... The only down side I see with a FMIC is the amount of cutting to the front bumper on the Impreza..... But the power gains are worth the hassle of the fitting one.

Thats my opinion I'm just waiting to order my FMIC.

If your looking for sensible power on the standard turbo, standard injectors then no, top mount will be fine. can you not swop the WRX I/C for the STI I/C,???? Don't forget you will have to have the car remapped or tweaked to really feel the benefit.

1. How far are you going ? 400 bhp then yes.
2. An STI IC is a bolt-on mod capable up to 400 bhp. easy to find and quite cheap.
3. With your std. turbo it will most likely be laggy if you fit an FMIC, an STI turbo and a re-map will help fill that gap.
4. Can you insure it with all that on ?

If yes then off you go !

All IMHO.

IM PLANNING A BIGGER TURBO AND INJECTORS, BUT PROBABLY WONT BE TILL NEXT YEAR, FINGERS CROSSED IM HOPING TO END UP AT ABOUT 350+ BHP.

WHAT SORT OF POWER COULD BE EXPECTED FROM THOSE STI BITS ??

greatgonzo 28 March 2010 07:47 PM

300 bhp-340bhp, but then you must think of clutch , brakes , suspension :freak3:

thanks for the info guys :thumb:, what year sti parts will fit onto mine and are they just direct bolt on ? im new to it all and not engine minded at all:confused:

Are you doing a lot of track days... this is the only reason i run a front mount, but if your not running big bhp or doing track, just get an updated top mount

If you are wanting to get to 350BHP, then there's no point in a FMIC in my opinion. I have an 06WRX and have spent a fair bit of cash to get it there.

I have :

STI Injectors
STI TMIC
VF34 turbo
3" decat (and downpipe) system - straight through from turbo
Remap (ecutek)
Upgraded Panel filter
Fuel pump

Total so far - about £4.5k

This will get you to 350-360 depending on how your car reacts.
Anything beyond this starts to get very expensive - uprated gaskets, oil pump, pistons, crank, cams, clutch and suspension etc. The standard gearbox won't take much more than this, so to upgrade to 6Speed box then needs new diff ....

You have to ask yourself - is it worth the £8k spend - just sell up and get an STI and start from there :thumb:

However, if you want a good, quick WRX, throw money at it but be realistic with your expectations.

thanks for the reply pal, what colour injectors do you have ?

LeeP 28 March 2010 10:09 PM

Not sure on colour - think they are 660cc

06wrx 28 March 2010 10:18 PM

Thanks Lee:thumb:

MY 05-06 WRX is OK on TMIC at 350 bhp.
STi pink injectors will get you to the high 300s
Lee's spec above is good for what he intends to achieve.
Also look at an 18G of the right spec. A VF 35 is another possibility for a little bit less top end power.
