I followed a newish Corvette the other day, followed him through town at sensible speeds, he knew i was tailing him, then we got to a roundabout to join the main road, he went for it and so did I - red-line in every gear - he was starting to pull away from me at about 60, was ahead at 90 and we both gave up a few seconds after this (silly speed reached!). Anyone know how powerful these things are, what size is the engine? I reckon had it been a twisty road it would have been different, but on the straights he was eating me. I did manage to maintain the Scooby reputation though cause when hed slowed down to a steady 80 i did fly past him for the exit lane and 4 wheel drift round the corner just to prove a point!! (yeah flame me if u like - but why have a fast car and drive like a poof!).

Well im not so embarrassed now then! - Mind you like i said - put the 2 cars down the same stretch of lanes or twisty B-roads and i think it would be a different story!

ahh, 'vettes. Not as bad as people say.

Geoff Jeal, who fitted my brakes, looks after vettes and he had a nice collection in his workshop, and I was in heaven as I've always liked them. best was a black 600bhp monster, supercharded and looked the mutts nuts.

servicing every 15 - 20k, and major service will cost 200 quid, bargin! If/when I'm shipped off to the USA i might have to lease one! just for a laff of course.

So, they can be very quick indeed, certainly in a straight line, plus they sound so nice with a big ol V8. OK, so handling is not on a par with a scoob and they are not really designed for our type of roads, but they are fun.

Bottom line is Vettes are cool. I've got a black 1980 batmobile. Fantastic noise, it shakes from side to side when you pip the throttle at idle and has one of the most spectacular body shapes around. But it only generates about 200bhp and weighs about 15 tonnes. All show, no go. I've been thinking about a new engine which gives about 355bhp but I don't think I'll bother. I only use it to cruise in the sunshine. I use the P1 when I want to blow away the cobwebs.
