HELP!! Why am I getting sudden power loss....

This morning on the way to work I was over taking a car and as I hit say 4-4500 rpm I lost power suddenly...
A little bit like if any of you have an anti Hi-jack device installed when it kills the power and then gives it back almost straight away.
I am not technical at all but it felt a little like it maybe miss-firing... Anyway, i stayed below 3,500 rpm the rest of the journey and it was fine.... Don't want to try putting my foot down in case something goes POP!!!
Any thought anyone, much appreciated!
:)

are you sure it was 4500 as sounds like boost cut...

Scooby Lydia 18 March 2010 10:24 AM

Could boost cut really produce such a harsh sudden power loss??

scoobybry! 18 March 2010 10:30 AM

yes easily ! Like hitting a brick wall if your heavy on the boost !

LOL! thanks Scoobybry!
What could be causing this??

I can only think that racing an Evo FQ360 Tuesday night has something to do with it, but it seemed fine yesterday....
And I was not pushing it hard this morning when it happened!

dont quote me on this but it is due to your ecu thinking you are getting to much air in the system! ( may even be a split pipe fingers crossed) A tweek on the ecu will sort it if it is the ecu.

one of the more clued up peps on here will let you know i am sure !

If I get Adam at Autotechnica in Buxton, to plug it into his diagnostics machine will that be able to tell me what the issue is??

scoobybry! 18 March 2010 11:41 AM

yes should do. What scooby is it ?

Scooby Lydia 18 March 2010 11:53 AM

It is a 2003 STI Type UK with PPP.

SteveRattue 23 March 2010 10:31 PM

My car did this today, same car 2003 STI, japspeed sports cat and 3" to 2.5" mid pipe to prodrive backbox.

i have same sort of problem round about 4000-4500revs but only in 4th gear mentioned it to my mechanic he seemed to be at a loss i have a 2002 bugeye sti prodrive with ppp

zippy! 24 March 2010 06:35 PM

my turbo keeps falling off boost in 4th and 5th took it to a specialist near here and he said its most likely an air system problem ie leaking/split pipe worth a try i would say!

Ray T 24 March 2010 06:45 PM

had something similar a while back on my My00, turnned out to be a dodgy pipe clip holding the samco hose onto the inter cooler ,it was ok in normal driving but once onto boost the pipe would expand and the clip would slip its threads, felt like hitting a brickwall, took a bit of head scratching to find it!!
