What would make a bike beyond economical repair?
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but could do with a quick answer on this, long story short, I was hit by a car while riding my motorbike, I have had a quote for the repair work it is coming in at around £3600 Plus the cost of the hire bike I'm using now. I purchased the bike a few months ago for £3500, will this be an automatic write off?
Tbh I'd prefer if it was as I'd rather not have or try to sell a repaired bike. Any thoughts? |
Yes - chances are it will as it's only an estimate and may go higher. Bet the insurance doesn't give you £3500 without a fight mate.
Were you OK? |
Sounds like it will be written off. If they mess you around, ask them to point you to a suitable replacement on bike trader for less than 3500.
|
It woulld make sense as the repair costs are more than the bikes worth. I'm not sure what percentage the Insurance companies work on, thought it was 60% or there abouts. I'm sure some one on here will know the exact figure

Were you OK? I would maybe like to buy the bike back from them if this is the case and repair it in my own time, bit of a project. Is this simple enough and do you know if they are obliged to sell it back to me? |
not obliged to sell it to you. Sometimes if you ask they will as it's less hassle but a lot of insurance companies have companies lined to buy the salvage.
If you buy it back it will be a Cat c and show up on hpi checks |
