Are all your vacum/boost pipes on properly? When my FMIC pipe came off i had a similar problem. Is the car stalling?

Also what year, model & spec is the car?

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 04:26 PM

yes stalling badly its a 96 wrx
fmic apexi induction kit walbro pump and cat back

mje_wrx 12 January 2010 04:31 PM

do a compression test, make sure they are ok and as above check all connections

When did the problem start occuring? Did it happen after you came off boost?

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 04:35 PM

going to go and check all hoses. do you mean cylinder compression check mje wrx
if it is how hard is it to do
cheers pete

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 04:39 PM

only took the car around the block and dont think it was smoking when i left
car was reving fine and freely when i left only done about a 1/2 mile then turned for home.now the more it revs the more smoke apears

mje_wrx 12 January 2010 04:43 PM

yeh cylinder , its easy providin u can get a tester kit, remove spark splugs, screw tester into 1st chamber, food flat on accelerator and turn over engine, take reading, they shiuld all be simular. also check all ur breathers, make sure they are ok, and also check oil, see if its using any, check water tank for any oil. do all simple checks first. clean iacv.

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 04:50 PM

going to get a tester kit tomoro.will the compresion test show gaskets or possible ring or both

mje_wrx 12 January 2010 04:59 PM

will show rings, is the car trying to over heat at all. most garages will check ur compression, save u money buying a kit, that u may use once. are u using water or oil at all, is the top radiator hose solid when warm or still squeezeable

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 06:30 PM

when warm the hose becomes harder to squeeze but not totaly solid.dont seem to be loosing any oil or water
checked all hoses etc and one of the fmic tubes had come loose going to double clip it.
just noticed a faint rattle more like a ticking when you gentle blip the throttle it speeds up with it and its not going away when cars warm either.sounds coming from turbo corner.

mje_wrx 12 January 2010 06:47 PM

cud be turbo failing, that can cause smoke, get it to a garage so they car check it, i use a car stethescope to pin point any odd noises

but on here its hard 2 diagnose things, so remember its just advice, u cud fit boost pipe and it will be fine, when my boost pipe came of it wudnt even run. pipe looked on, but not clamped. refitted and run fine

Isit like a ringing noise/whining noise? Possibly could be that the shaft on the turbo has play. Which turbo do you have?

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 06:57 PM

god i hope so could stretch to a new turbo, bottom end would hurt right now
thanks for all the info it s much appreciated
going to do a compresion test anyway what kind of readings should i hopfully get and how much fluxuation is normal per cylinder
pete

pete96wrx 12 January 2010 07:02 PM

its a tdo5 i think. its got the 90 degree upturn on it
its not a ringing/whining ,sounds like a tapping kind of noise its there on idel and speeds up when you gentley blip throttle then a split second it disapears and its back.

mje_wrx 12 January 2010 07:08 PM

that cud be a heat shield or something, and now ur paranoid ur hear everything. im not sure what the psi shud be on cylinders off hand. il have a look for u

cheers mate just done a utube search and it dont sound like bigends(touch wood)
going to have to get it checked those just in case.going to check all the heat shield etc first

mje_wrx 12 January 2010 07:18 PM

let me know how u get off

pete96wrx 13 January 2010 03:16 PM

paranoid state over thing i sorted it
the tappings coming from actuvator arm.when i hold where its joint to the turbo and hold it tight it pretty much stops apart from manifold heat shield slighty flapping
so major panic over.thanks for all your advise helped loads mate
