MY06 WRX Hawk-Eye Rear Diff

Hi all,

Looking for a little bit of technical advice.

I have got an odd noise coming from my rear diff so I was looking at picking up a second hand one but I just needed to confirm the ratio. Is is 4.111 for a UK MY06 2.5L WRX Hawk-Eye?

Subaru dealer quoted me around £3K for a new one so hoping ebay or one of the breakers yards will have one

Cheers,
Matt :thumb:

Matt, your rear diff is 3.545. Check out the other thread where I have explained to the other guy what the noise might be.

If you actually do need a rear diff, call me, we have them.

David,

I'm able to hear the noise in the cabin at 60MPH+ but when Subaru jacked the car up you could hear it from much lower speeds. I guess it would be worth me getting a second opinion to make sure it is the diff.

I will contact you directly about pricing for a replacement part.

Cheers,

David,

I think you need to double check that info.

According to subaru part numbers the rear diff on a 2006 WRX Hawkeye is 4.11. The reason I know this was that I had a 2006 WRX box and I was going to use that to get mine running again. I needed to know what diff would pair up as the plan was to use the R180 3.54 that I have. I went to check at my local subaru dealer ship and according to their parts system its listed as 4.11

I'm still stuck with a 4.11 R160 that I'll never use!!

l'll look into that Daz, It is contrary to info we have here. So if I am wrong I apologise.

On the bright side Daz we used to struggle big time to get 4.1 rear diffs for the older WRX's. Never seemed to be able to get them when we needed. So I expect that someone with an Early GC8 import WRX will need it sometime. Might need half shafts too of course.

What is the transmission code of the matching gearbox?, that is where l'll start from in my search for the info.

Hi David,

I'm glad you didnt take offence at questioning you.

It's so damn hard to have a difference of opinion on here these days :)

The code for the box I had was TY754VG7AA

If it turns out you are correct I'm going to be gutted as I let the box go for peanuts :( I could have used it with my 3.54 R180 to atleast get my car driveable again. I'll without doubt have to go to a six speed at some point but it would have been nice to get the car up and running first.

No worries mate. Even I am not right all the time.

It's only Harvey and Bob'5 that disagree on here:lol1: sort of...

I'm on it, l'll find out what I can. l don't suppose you bothered taking out the filler plug and counting the crown whel teeth? That might shed light.

37 - 9 on a 4.111
39 - 10 on 3.900
40 - 9 on a 4.444
39 - 11 on a 3.545

Of course if you count 39 then it is necessary to see/count the pinion teeth as it could be either 3.9 or 3.54.

No I didnt. I sold the original diff that came with the box because at the time I thought it was a 3.54 FD It was only when I went to double check that I found out it was 4.11 So I sourced a 4.11 rear diff with regard to changing my hubs etc to R160. I decided it was too much hassle when I'd be going six speed anyway at some point.

Like I said I'll be gutted if it is 3.54 as I let it go for £350 complete with linkage, push clutch, release bearing and fork :(

If it is a 3.54 it will bolt straight on to what I've got now. I'll be well miffed LOL

I best get this 4.11 diff up for sale then.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks gents for taking the time to look in to this - much appreciated. I know it's not just for little old me but it makes me feel special none the less.

Matt

You asked in my post where I am getting the diff rebuilt. It is a Subaru mechanic who is known to my off road racing friend. I have just sent it to Scotland where he is based and he is sorting out the repair for me. See my reply to API David regarding the noise on my car

Can you give more detail on the noise problem on your car

Thanks

Confirmed now, The Hawkeye WRX 2.5 has a 4.111 diff front and rear.

Thanks for your help on that Daz.

Phew!!!

Would have been gutted if I'd have parted with it and it was 3.54.

Glad to be of help.

Need to get rid of my diff now then Anyone require a 4.11 rear diff? :D

APIDavid 11 January 2010 11:52 AM

Doesn't the OP need one ?

mjcwrx 08 March 2010 08:30 PM

Double Confirmed after splitting a TY754VG7AA today the ratio is definately 4.111 front and rear! 37/9 front 1:1 Transfer and 37/9 rear!
