This may be a stupid question, but how much quicker is the shift on this kit compared to the shift on a P1 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif cos I may be interested

Andrew

Having just asked Wayne @ GGR, the answer is...

Apparently, the Prodrive ones are similar to the STi ones & GGR is 5% shorter throw than STi & 30% on standard MY99 Turbos...

Cheaper too as you don't need the bushes etc that come with the Prodrive ones...

DocJock had one (Prodrive) in his Wagon & I'm well impressed so I'll be getting one for PTMW! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Wonder if the wife will notice http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

Are these easy to fit or is it a professional job?

Cheers
Paul

Puff The Magic Wagon! 20 February 2001 02:03 PM

According to Wayne @ GGR its 30 minute job by non-techy-mechy person...

But he would say that http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

chiark 20 February 2001 04:22 PM

I asked exactly the same question in Drivetrain, and was pointed to

Rum* 20 February 2001 04:27 PM

Andrew,

I believe the gear shift is very similar to the P1....certainly my MY98 with Prodrive Short Shift had the same feel as the P1 one (one one one???? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif) - a lot of ones their...

Anyway, hope that helps.

Tom

P.S Also nice to put a face to a name to a client - and echoing Arron...some tidy driving on Sunday!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Mr.Cookie 20 February 2001 05:04 PM

ordered mine a week ago http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif was going to left my garage fit it on my next service but thanks to chiark for that link i'll have a bash myself.

Si

Steve Perriam 20 February 2001 07:08 PM

does this GGR kit also provide approx 30% shorter throw on a MY00 turbo ?

i drove a MY99 turbo with a prodrive quickshift and was impressed with the difference over a standard MY99 demo car i drove.

i've been seriously considering a quickshift since buying my turbo but the prodrive / dealer price is £245 + vat fitted ?

so £69.95 is a bargain ! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Hi All

I was going to get one of these because of the amazing price but was told by Harj to wait and get a BPM one. Is this a good idea or should i just order a GGR one now? Does anyone know how much the BPM one is likely to cost?

chrisnobbs 20 February 2001 08:00 PM

Will it a)fit and b)give a noticeable improvement to the action on a 94 UK car?

miller 20 February 2001 08:18 PM

It still baffles me. How can you possibly reduce gear change time by fitting a shorter throw lever.
The clutch takes longer to release and apply than it takes to move the stick from one gear to another.
When ever i`m in a hire car or similar I rarely use the clutch and this is definately quicker. But. a shorter throw on the gear shift is gonna be nothin, perhaps milliseconds but nothing much.
Hype and bull**** again.

BryanC 20 February 2001 08:21 PM

Dunno about the rest of this lot here - but I personally prefer the quick shift 'cos I'm damn lazy.

I prefer not having to move the stick as far - nothing to do with gear change speed http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Mr.Cookie 20 February 2001 08:36 PM

Chris

Yes you have to order the older style one like i did MY95

Si

TKH 20 February 2001 08:55 PM

Just order one for gawds sake it makes a difference a big one and for what £ 69.00
and its easy to fit.

Regards

Tim

p.s : my orders just arrived from the shop great service but i think its going to take me a long time to get it fully blown up. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

sasim 20 February 2001 09:25 PM

On the SIDC site it says that a quickshift on a pre MY97 can "beat the gearbox" is this true.

I have a MY96 and fancy one of the GGR ones, but not if it crunches the box.

Gary Foster 20 February 2001 09:31 PM

Crikey !! didn't realise it was so easy to fit !!

I'm ordering one know !!

Is there any chance of asking that chap if we could borrow his fitting instructions to put in the databank in the shop ? I'm sure in the future more peeps would be interested if they knew they could fit it themselves.

Gary

Chris L 20 February 2001 10:08 PM

So has anyone fitted one of these to an MY00? Is it worth doing? I've got no problem in spending the money, as long as it worth doing.

Chris

adyhicut 20 February 2001 10:13 PM

Does anyone know if it will fit the my01.

I know GGR do a 6 speed quickshift for the my01 but mines only a 5 speed!

ady http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Charlie H 20 February 2001 10:14 PM

Too many deals, not enough money ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Puff The Magic Wagon! 20 February 2001 10:26 PM

It will definately fit a MY00.

Wayne said/implied that it was better value than Prodrive kit certainly as far back as MY97 as linkages would/should not be worn/too worn.

As to VFM, I don't (yet) know. The one on DocJock's car provided a lot more confidence and feel to a gear-change. I likened it at the time to having a gate, like on a Ferrari. I don't think my gear-changes were necessarily quicker, but it wasn't my car/clutch/gearbox. However, they were definately more precise & accurate. I think I only missed one gear, whereas a couple in PTMW! & in less time. Besides, the [movement] action was better.

shooter 20 February 2001 10:59 PM

just to answer adys question we now have the new STI assembley for the new age MY01 (5 speed quickshift). At the minute you can only purchase the complete linkage. Please ring for prices
Thanks Wayne

Im just posting to say thanx for the answers to my earlier post....NOT

Chris L 21 February 2001 08:41 AM

With respect Ian, this is a public BBS - people reply of their own free will - there is no compulsion to do so.

I would suggest speaking to Harj again and see if knows anyone that has the BPM fitted (as I assume he is speaking from experience).

Chris

Gary Foster 21 February 2001 09:04 AM

Same sentiments as Chris with bells and frilly bits on.

paul w 21 February 2001 10:19 AM

I have just checked out the instalation site,do you get just the lever as shown for £70 if so i can make one myself piece of pi$$.Seems a bit steep for what you get.

Maxy_UK 21 February 2001 11:13 AM

I understand that however if i can help someone out then i do.........the reason why im so impatient this time is because this offer closes THIS week so i dont want to miss this out if the GGR one is better value for money.

Ian
