Mugen Civic - £38.5k!

ouch!

Civic Type R Mugen for £38,599 - Autocar.co.uk

ChefDude 22 October 2009 01:04 PM

surely there's more car and kudos in a slightly used '911' ?!

monotokpoint 22 October 2009 01:09 PM

i agree, i think the list could be quite long for decent cars in that price bracket

ScoobyJawa 22 October 2009 01:10 PM

OMG theres so many other cars I'd shell out 40k on before a flipping chavved up (OK Mugen isn't quite that bad!) Honda Civic with only 237bhp

Turbo2 22 October 2009 01:10 PM

They'll probably end up having to sell them to the Civic's principal demographic: namely those confused old dears down the bowling club! :lol1:

scixer6r 22 October 2009 01:23 PM

If thats the best they can come up with for 37k i wouldnt bother.

Anyone who buys one must have more money than sense:cuckoo:

Terminator X 22 October 2009 01:44 PM

Laughable

I'll have two pls!

TX.

Edit - this is an awesome machine & probably only 1/2 the price of the Mugen:

http://www.carview.co.jp/magazine/ph...mages/04_l.jpg

Doubt that it's much slower either.

StickyMicky 22 October 2009 02:24 PM

Its like them crazy folk who paid 40k for a chavved up impreza ;)

Yes - and are still willing to pay over half that 20 years on :cuckoo:

20 years on? :wonder:

Turbo2 22 October 2009 02:59 PM

I like this quote:

"When we launched the Civic Type RR saloon in Japan, we sold out of all 300 units in just six minutes".

That's one every 1.2 seconds. If the new car sells like that it will be sold out in 24 seconds. You'll be stuffed if the Receptionist at your local dealer puts you on "hold"! :lol1:

By the way, anyone else think it looks more like an electric iron or a shopping trolley than a nigh-on 40k car?

V5RLTD 22 October 2009 03:03 PM

I bet this is not getting the same review on the Honda forums! The same as the 22b is raved about on here (not by me) the Honda nuts probably struggle to see where £25k for a 10 year old impreza come from.

You're entitled to your opinion on the (faster ;)) 22B of course, but you're not comparing like with like. The obvious rival to this Civic would be something like an RS Focus, which looks a whole lot better, has a whole lot more power, goes a whole lot quicker and costs a whole lot less.

I don't see what the point of producing these mere 20 Civics really is.

V5RLTD 22 October 2009 03:34 PM

Lol, just read back my post and what im trying to say didnt come out at all! :lol1::freak3: What im trying to say is that the Honda badge followers will love such a car would not have a problem parting with 37k for one! I certainly wouldnt buy one, but 237bhp from a NA 2.0 is mighty impressive :)

Ps If i was spending that much on a car it would probably be on a mint tuned, r34 vspec or a M3 CSL etc etc!

Not particularly. The S2000 had that very same output from NA 2.0 when launched 10 years ago!

V5RLTD 22 October 2009 04:11 PM

And? Still impressive. :)

Honda S2000 Edition 100 (2009) CAR review | Road Testing Reviews | Car Magazine Online

You could have picked up a last-of-the-line limited edition S2000 for 29k earlier this year.

That's a proper classic RWD sportscar with the same output/performance for 9.5k less than this old biddies' shopping trolley.

Or you could pick up an old S2000 for 6K and still enjoy that motor. :thumb:

Matteeboy 22 October 2009 05:07 PM

It will have no torque as usual.

And torque is good.

monotokpoint 22 October 2009 05:40 PM

for the s2000, i just used to make sure i was in the right gear, you tend to adapt to it

type-ellis 22 October 2009 06:13 PM

Good cars but wouldnt pay that for it. As said above, you gotta be in the right gear to get them to go well.

Just read 'Car' magazine, and I think you will find that the Civic blitz's the RS and got a quicker time that the Impreza 330s round the track.

Personally, for £40k I rather have one of these:

Meridien Modena : Audi RS4 Avant - 4.2 Quattro

Trevor Jones Car Company : B.M.W. M3 Coupe 6 speed (Satellite Navigation)

ALEXANDERS PRESTIGE : BMW M5 SMG EDC NAV BLUETOOTH 19" ALLOYS FBMWS

DK Engineering : Ferrari 456 M GTA (Modificato)

beef-on-the-bone 23 October 2009 05:08 PM

similar situation to the mitsubi**** evo X fq400, that's nearly 50k!!!!!

both a lot to pay for a factory tuned car that comes with a warranty!!!!

J4CKO 23 October 2009 05:57 PM

So, about a grand per extra bhp, I know its not all about horsepower and I am sure its one of the best FWD hatches but 38 grand, thats mental, the car its based on wasnt as good as its predecessor, simplified suspension, heavier and slower, so does that make this as good as the previous model ?

spot on, I have one of these and a few choice mods and a kpro will see it make more than 237 and it's a very focused drivers car, for half the price.

J4CKO 23 October 2009 07:20 PM

An R26R Megane, the most focused hatch around is £22,900, a Focus RS with 300 bhp which I would imagine will eat this alive is about £26,000, honda either dont care or are very confident.

V5RLTD 23 October 2009 07:27 PM

I was reading a review about the new focus RS, and they come to the conclusion that it wasnt worth the extra £ over the ST. Still the ridiculous torque steer, bone shattering suspension and a pathetic turning circle due to the huge wheels. :wonder: Does look gorgeous though. (in white :D)

torque is misunderstood, usually by diesel drivers.

ScoobyJawa 23 October 2009 11:14 PM

yeah but not everyone wants to wring every last rev out of their car to make it go fast ;) Sorry, in this case sort of warm not fast or hot ;)
