JDM S202 Starting Problem

Just picked up an S202 on Tuesday and went to start it a while ago and even though the ignition dashboard lights all come on and the Defi gauges go through there sequence but it will just not turn the starter motor over. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...milies/mad.gif

There is no click from the starter motor and the fuel pump does not appear to be working either, the car has an earthing kit fitted but I do not believe this to be the cause.

I would imagine that the alarm/immobiliser system is the same as a JDM STi, the key has two buttons one large and one small but pressing either of them does no good. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...es/ponder2.gif
Has anyone encountered a similar problem and what cured it? http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/confused.gif I know there are probably hundreds of possible causes and it does not help that the car's manuals are all in Japenese as well. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr.../brickwall.gif

Sounds like the Immobiliser to me. Have you tried to bump start it?

I know this may sound stupid but are you dipping the clutch when starting?

Calvin, I cannot bump start it from where I park it on my drive :brickwall

Yes I have depressed the clutch but still not starting, I found that quirk with JDM cars when I picked it up. TBH that was the first thing I thought of myself until I realised I had then clutch pedal depressed. :lol1:

engine management fuse?

JDM's dont have immobilisers fitted from the factory ;) probably a fault with the after market one :( if its a clifford it may well be the fuel pump cut out.

Tony:)

Well the fuel pump is working as I can hear it when the ignition is switched on, so that may well rule out the engine management fuse but as it is so dark now I will check that out in the morning. :thumb:

TBH it doesn't look like it does have an immobiliser fitted and I can hear the fuel pump working when the ignition is switched on. :wonder:

I have a suspicion that the battery might well be at fault as it has a slimline racing type fitted, I will do a voltage check on the battery in the morning. :)

Not many S202's about.......how about asking who you bought it from :D

I doubt if it's the battery as when the starter starts to engage the bendix drive with a duff battery everything else dies and the cockpit goes dark !

Sounds like an immobiliser problem :(

All sorted now, it has a secret security device ;) that I armed without knowing about. :)

Spoke to the seller of the car and he advised me of the device and now the car starts like a dream. :luxhello:

Well mine definitely is taxed, insured and on the road, they do not have a model report but can be registered for the road as along as they pass an SVA test when imported and are modified for UK roads (usually a rear fog lamp is all that is needed). :thumb:

^^ Really? There's been one for sale at WRC for a looong time at a bargain price too ... if it was easy as you say then I'd have snapped it up as it's my dream Scoob :( I thought that they needed to be 10yrs old to bypass having a model report?

TX.

Edit - see:

2nd edit - it may be that yours was imported before they clamped down on it. Has it been in the UK for some time?

It was imported into the UK last year and is definitely on the road, it might be worth you contacting the DVLA in Swansea to ask their advice as you might be able to do all the leg work yourself and save yourself some £'s. :thumb:
