My WRX made it to the Swiss Alps!
A second visit to the Swiss Alps for my MY93 WRX.
This time we had a few days of perfect weather and, since it was still mid-June, there was still plenty of snow on the mountain tops! :D This picture was taken at the top of the Nufenen Pass, at 2478m above sea level. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...48_reduced.jpg |
How long did it take to drive there? Fuel costs? I'm interested in a road trip too in the scoob! nice work fella!

Thanks for the comments :)
Apart from the ferrys, there wasn't too much pre-planning to the holiday. We headed down to Switzerland a couple of days after Le Mans - took it quite steady, taking in some N-roads a bit of peage and an overnight stop at a campsite near Dijon. We entered Switzerland via Chamonix (passing Mount Blanc) and spent two days camping near Sierre, followed by another few days in Ulrichen. We then had a few days in northern Switzerland with some of Rachael's relatives, before taking a similarly steady 2-day, N-road treck back towards Le Havre. Unfortunately, it wasn't all driving - will have to spend longer there next time! A few more pics.... This was the view from the top of the Nufenen Pass: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...27_reduced.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...53_reduced.jpg The drive down from here was the only one where I experienced a bit of brake fade. There's about 8 hairpins separated by decent length straights and, despite quite a lot of engine braking, slowing down from 60+ to 25-ish in rapid succession took it's toll!! Part-way up the Furkapass: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...82_reduced.jpg The weather wasn't great all the time: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...48_reduced.jpg It was actually snowing at the top of the Sustenpass! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...54_reduced.jpg Hopefully we'll be back sometime soon! :D |
Awesome pics :thumb: I'm gonna do a Europe tour next year hopefully, France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany :D

I go snowboarding every year and seriously want to take a road trip to the alps in my scoob, I'd love a pic of my car with the mountain backdrop whilst I do a trick on my board :)

A few of us went last year, 3 Scoobs, an Elise and a 335d.
Holiday of a lifetime, and a must do for anyone. Going again in September, in a Smart Roadster. Just a couple of mine... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...8/IMG_3363.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...8/IMG_3891.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...8/IMG_3236.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...8/IMG_3500.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...8/IMG_3407.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...8/IMG_3850.jpg |
Believe it or not but...... im pretty sure I saw you go past on a Saturday or Sunday, heading from Geneva towards Chamonix.
I was parked up at the services at Bonneville (not the Shell one) and saw a silver UK registered classic go past |
I'm hoping to drive to Dahn (south germany) and Stuhlfelden 3 weeks earlier if I can afford it. Already decided it will be the scenic route :)
