2006 wrx still 2.5 drivers help

Hi all,

New to sconbies and got my first on Saturday.
The car is hard to set off in first gear and going in to second which feels like clutch judder. I have to slip the clutch a bit and few more revs on than my other cars. Is this something you guys suffer with that I have addapt to or an issue?

F1 CJE UK 26 May 2009 06:42 PM

my car does not do that, sorry sounds like a issue

the_big_1 26 May 2009 06:51 PM

Any ideas?
Is the clutch included in the 3 year warrenty as there is two weeks left.

addison 26 May 2009 06:58 PM

my 06 is a bit like that, i do stall it if i don't get the revs up in first.

richie001 26 May 2009 06:59 PM

Sounds like you got a problem mate.

the_big_1 26 May 2009 07:22 PM

I can stall mine if i dont keep the revs up. if I let the clutch out really slow, its ok but if I let it out like I did on my BMW 330, the car feels like it judders.
I have got in contact with the garage telling them it has clutch judder and the clutch needs changing at a cost of £700.

the_big_1 26 May 2009 07:22 PM

Anything else it could be besides clutch?

the_big_1 26 May 2009 08:23 PM

Is there anything I can check besides the clutch or anyone in the midlands area who has a 2.5 that can try it and then know if it is an issue etc?

From all your posts your car sounds like a nightmare, isn't this the one which has turned out to be an import? I'd go and get your money back asap.

Flywheel needs skimming warped clutch or both I'd suggest

yep it is norman told him earlier it was a eu model id do the same

the_big_1 26 May 2009 09:06 PM

Yeah looking that way. Import side sorted, insurance has no issue with it so cost the same, got the upgraded suspension for free lol. Car has only done 18000 mile, clutch gone so soon? I have asked the guy to suggest clutch replacement, just incase

the_big_1 26 May 2009 09:12 PM

Just done a lot of reading up and a lot say, launch the car and it clears it some times? Also, the car is still under Subaru warrenty so could be sorted by them?
with it being an import I have got a toad alarm fitted off the seller and a tracker, all for free.

F1 CJE UK 26 May 2009 09:43 PM

i would take it to subaru no reason why they will have any issues with a euro car and they will give it a good look over. play it safe

the_big_1 26 May 2009 09:45 PM

Yeah they have no issue with car, spoke to IM head office today. is the clutch included in the 3 year warranty?

my06 ppp silver 26 May 2009 10:07 PM

i believe it is meant to be "any moving part", thats what i was told. just phone them and tell them you want it looking at anyway. i had my rear shocks replaced after 6 weeks of ownership.

the_big_1 26 May 2009 10:20 PM

I will call them first thing.
Might be lucky, might get money off the seller for the clutch and get it done by Subaru for free lol

The dreadful drive-by wire throttle on hawkeye 2.5 cars.

I could never get a good get away without getting revs to about 1800 rpm before the car was remapped. Below this rpm led to either kangarooing or a stall.
I'd hedge my bets and say its a "feature" of the car.

Nick

the_big_1 26 May 2009 10:45 PM

Yeah if I get the revs to around 1500rpm, it sets off fine. If I go in too second, the revs need to be the same. Is yours the same? did a remap get rid of the problem completly?

Butty 26 May 2009 11:04 PM

The remaps have made some improvement, but have never matched the feel of a cable throttle.

the_big_1 26 May 2009 11:08 PM

How come other guys with 06 STI dont have the same issue. Could yours have the clutch issue and the remap just improves? My BMW 330CI was drive by wire and dual mass fly wheel which are a pain and the set off etc was almost totaly smooth. Will try slipping the clutch a bit tomorrow, see if it helps and get it to be looked at by a dealer. If they say its normal, lost nothing, if it is cluctch, they should do it under warrenty?

Butty 27 May 2009 10:16 AM

There have been other threads that mention the poor DBW response, but it may be that many Hawkeye owners just accept it.
I'm coming up to 35k miles in 2 years and there's been no deterioration in the problem, even with a good hike in power output.
See what the dealer says, but I've always found that clutch problems are always claimed as wear n tear issues and not claimable.

the_big_1 27 May 2009 10:20 AM

I spoke to a dealer on the phone and they are going to look at it tomorrow. I went on the approach of fly wheel damaging the clutch ;0)

On anther side, a guy here has a classic as says his is the same at times. He said drive to 20 mph then dip the clutch a few times. Cleans any build ups off and always fixes his classic.

s70rjw 27 May 2009 08:14 PM

My Classic did it from new. Neither of my Newage cars were so afflicted.

the_big_1 27 May 2009 10:42 PM

I did the clutch thing on the way home. Its 70% better. The judder has almost gone. The only issue now is that the clutch seems to me to sensative and you need to rev the car to above 1200 so it sets off smooth. when you go to second gear, the clutch seems to snatch and causes the engine / exhaust to jolt feelling like it hits the car.

Boyakasha 27 May 2009 10:54 PM

I think you just need to get used to driving a scoob, they need to be reved to get them going either that or your clutch control has to be spot on or you will stall it.

Don't go slipping the clutch too much as you'll end up burning it out.

the_big_1 27 May 2009 11:00 PM

I am tinking thats all it is now but got a dealer checking it over. The only bit that bothers me is jolt from the engine and gearbox when going in to second.
