He still pulls a bit but is far better on this than without it.....

Try one of these before a choker ...... surely

i find with my staff she pulls on the lead and at the moment am trying to get her to walk of the lead with some difficulty as 1 day she will do realy well and listen and other days its like ill do what i want.

Our trainer recomended one of these as he just choked himself with a normal coller or choke chain

Beau HATES IT but he doesn't pull

Gail has just bought a harness and he is comfortable with it and doesn't pull

However he walks with me without a lead never more than 2 paces in front or behind ;)

:thumb: As Phil said, Dave also does not particularly like his Halti, Bill the Lab does not seem bothered but overall he is a very relaxed dog........

But tbh our dogs rarely pound the streets and are normally taken straight out in the van to the local fields or woods and are both excellent off the lead as they have both been well socialised with other people and dogs........ :)

I found the Halti a useful aid with a very spirited young border collie. It was soon changed to an ordinary collar once he had learnt the rules of not pulling. You have to persevere when you first put it on as it will feel strange but so long as you distract them with something far more interesting than a collar they soon forget it's there. Till they go to pull.

Make sure you get a good fit, not too loose & use the safety link which attaches the HALTI to the dog's conventional collar and therefore provides additional security.

Well i'm gutted to say that we only lasted 1 day with Louis. From the start he was a lot bigger and a lot more boisterous than we had been lead to believe. We were concerned with him and samuel. However I think this may be a lot more to do with us than him. He had had a lot of training. When he was calm he would sit when told and lay down. You could tell him to leave and he would. But we had to go with our gut instinct on this one and Louis has now found a nice home on a farm with his original owners family.

One good thing that has come from this for us, is that we now know that we would be prepared to share our home with a dog and that we will be getting one later in the year. We will most likely go for a puppy so that we can be sure of him / her from the offset. Thanks for all your replies and pm's, we'll be contacting you again later in the year when we're ready to go and get the new addition to our family. Which is most likely going to be a welsh terrier or miniature schnauzer. I've been doing a lot of reading up and they seem like they would suit us well.

Matt, i'm really sad for you that it did not work out, although also slightly relieved as I you know I was a little concerned about the little'n. Also very glad the dog has a new home, hopefully it will be permanent.
I have no experience of the breed you mention, but always a far safer bet starting with a home rearer puppy, although a lot messier! :lol1:

Matt, I am sorry to hear it didn't work out - but so glad you went with your gut instinct - especially where Samuel was concerned.

Even the smallest of doubts where kids & dogs are concerned have got to be taken seriously.

I think you will be more aware of what to look for now you've had this opputunity, and would recommend a puppy that can be seen with it's parents!

At least you've got all the bits & pieces now, ready for your new addition when you find what you want! :thumb:
