Whats the difference?

Hi, I've been looking for a nice classic STi for some time now. I recently came across a WRX RA which looks absolutely spotless. It is at the very top of my budget so I would not be able to mod for some time. I have driven a normal WRX and wasn't that impressed which is why I started looking for an STi. Whats make an RA different from the normal WRX?

uk300scoob 26 April 2009 02:44 PM

its light weight

I thought that was a myth? I know the bonnet is but I thought that was it. This also has the elec pack. It says its the WRX Type RA WRC Limited edition

bish667 26 April 2009 03:13 PM

I believe the RA also has a very short ratio gearbox, so better accelaration but not so good top end.

Have a read through this topic it has some mentions of the RA:

Don't forget the RA (race altered) was the cheapest version they did LOL

Shaun

Cheapest??

BLACK V5 26 April 2009 04:08 PM

Yes was the cheapest. Its a wrx with all the extras taken off. But get shorter gearing and water spray

Midlife...... 26 April 2009 04:08 PM

The RA sibling was cheaper because it had so much kit deleted, steel wheels, no colour coding etc.

It was lighter and had shorter gearing though.

Do not confuse the RA with the newage Spec C which was more expensive due to performance mofifications.

Not an RA... no roof vent , colour etc. :D

Shaun

mattwrxCS 26 April 2009 05:09 PM

Yes it is an RA!

The WRC Limited's came in 74f,

Its the same as mine, close ratio box and 276bhp as standard. It will probably top out at about 120mph ish, but it gets there rather sharpish.

WRX had no roof vent or DCCD and had the addition of ABS, which the STi didn't have.

The Limited had a few extras and in my opinion is the one to have :D

B8YN 26 April 2009 05:10 PM

and its got air con from what i no they didnt have it

mattwrxCS 26 April 2009 05:13 PM

If you do get it, the o/s/r tyre is on the wrong way round :lol1:

mattwrxCS 26 April 2009 05:14 PM

Because its a LIMITED AND IT HAS A FEW EXTRAS

Midlife...... 26 April 2009 05:45 PM

Just noticed it's a V Limited... the WRX RA V Limited had no roof vent and came in blue, apologies for post 10

Shaun

mattwrxCS 26 April 2009 05:52 PM

Midlife...... 26 April 2009 06:03 PM

Page 5....pure sports sedan

wrx type ra limited

mit 26 April 2009 08:48 PM

So, the only thing different from that RA and a wrx is the box? As it has elecy windows, abs, airbags etc all the RA's weight saving has been added back on!

rooferman 26 April 2009 09:37 PM

The wrx ra limiteds that i have seen came with some pink sti suspension parts......which were not on the sti version ra limited as standard.

There is a tread on here somewhere dedicated to the Wrx type ra limited..

Please just ignore the bit about the 2 door ra.......it has since been confirmed as a myth.....

Midlife...... 26 April 2009 10:32 PM

The brochures I posted relate to the Ver VI Limited's from November 1999.......did they manufacture the RA limited (bruchure) alongside the RA WRC Limited mentioned in post 17 ??

I can't find any mention of the WRC limited in Long's book or find an OEM brochure mentioning a WRC limted.... confused LOL

As well as the low ratio box the RA's come with a stronger closed deck block, 5th injector and inter cooler spray too :thumb:

Chris.B 27 April 2009 01:05 AM

No closed deck block or fifth injector on the v4/5/6.....ra......

It was the earlier models that had the block and 5th injector.

mattwrxCS 27 April 2009 10:19 AM
