Newcastle are in a world of sh1t

i hope they pull off some sort of escape :thumb:

after watching the game against Tottenham i think they are doomed

Gav 20 April 2009 08:50 AM

I hope they go down, it's the wake up call the fans and the club need...

Funkii Munkii 20 April 2009 09:11 AM

They are going down, Shearer hasn't a clue and as I suggested when he signed up I think he's made a massive mistake.

Turbo2 20 April 2009 09:45 AM

Aah yes Shearer the returning Messiah. Hang on a minute, I thought that was Keegan? Or was it Bobby Robson? Perhaps Mike Ashley should ditch his thankless quest for spiritual salvation and start looking for a decent football manager? Otherwise I can see them starting next season down in the Championship with the Angel of the North sat in the dug-out flapping his wings in frustration! :lol1:

Bravo2zero_sps 20 April 2009 11:17 AM

It'll be Gazza in charge next :lol1:

Good point: those 39 days spent in charge of Conference North side Kettering Town back in 2005 must put him in with a shout! :lol1:

I think either Boro or Newcastle will escape the drop with Hull being the ones to go down. They're in freefall.

Eh? Apart from the thicko's that they interview on Sky Sports I don't think we need a reality check, we're shit and we know we are.

Still got my ticket for next season but it'll be interesting to see how many plastic Geordies hang around

legacytt 20 April 2009 06:58 PM

with being such a big club i wouldnt have predicted they would be where they are and you cant blame shearer i dont think any manager can save them now if they do escape i think shearer will stay but if not he has nothing to lose.

Newcastle United are not a big club!
They are a club who command large crowds.
When are people going to stop calling them a big club?
The commentators on the TH v NU game introduced the match by saying both clubs have a rich history! Newcastle have won nothing in my memory. i am 38.
Can anyone tell me how NU qualify to be a big club? as i do not know how they can be.
Sorry Geordies but its they way i perceive it. Also i don't say this to offend you.:thumb:

Bravo2zero_sps 21 April 2009 11:09 AM

They are a big club in terms of supporters/regular large attendances/financial stability and turnover and being quite high up on the European clubs rich list. This of course does not count for anything in terms of performance and lack of trophies and whether they should be in any sort of proposed super league.

davegtt 21 April 2009 11:46 AM

Newcastle United ARE a big club, theyre just not a successful club.

Branding and success make big clubs.
NU are not a worlwide brand and have had ZERO success, therefore they are NOT a big club!

davegtt 21 April 2009 01:15 PM

Call it what you like, but theyre big.... You cant argue that fact. Its like saying a giant easter egg isnt big because it tastes horrible (presuming you didnt like chocolate) :lol1:

michaelro 21 April 2009 11:30 PM

Well according to Rafa, Everton aren't a big club but have won a lot more than most clubs in the premiership.

Newcastle Big Club Checklist

Large Fanbase - Check
Rich Club - ish
Recent Success - None
Past Success - Some, but years ago
European Success - None of note

Large Club? - Computer says no...

I'd say the following are bigger clubs in the premiership (Alphabetical order as not to imply who's the biggest):

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Spurs

The rest are either medium or small clubs.

Flame Suit On :Suspiciou

Funkii Munkii 22 April 2009 12:53 AM

Come on they won the Inter Toto 2 or 3 years ago, got a trophy and everything, I believe they stopped short of the Open topped bus round the city ;)

And waaaaaaaaay back in time the won the Inter-Cities Fair Cup, now more commonly known as the UEFA cup

European giants :D

So would you say that Man Utd is either medium or small? ;)

The official rich list:

Deloitte Football Money League - 2007/08 revenue (previous year in brackets)
1 (1) Real Madrid £289.6million
2 (2) Manchester United £257.1m
3 (3) FC Barcelona £244.4m
4 (7) Bayern Munich £233.8m
5 (4) Chelsea £212.9m
6 (5) Arsenal £209.3m
7 (8) Liverpool £167.0m
8 (6) AC Milan £165.8m
9 (11) AS Roma £138.9m
10 (9) Internazionale £136.9m
11 (12) Juventus £132.6m
12 (13) Lyon £123.3m
13 (16) Schalke 04 £117.5m
14 (10) Tottenham £114.8m
15 (15) Hamburg £101.3m
16 (19) Marseille £100.4m
17 (14) Newcastle £99.4m
18 (-) Stuttgart £88.3m
19 (-) Fenerbahce £88.1m
20 (-) Manchester City £82.3m

The clubs on that list are the big clubs despite any lack of success purely by their financial results. Newcastle being the 17th richest club in Europe on revenue says they are a big club. And the top 10 clubs on that list are by far and away the biggest names in European football based on results and how far they get in the Champions League each year.

That trophy was never an official Uefa competition - You only had to hold to be a city that held a trade fair to be a part of it :cuckoo:

Newcastle are only on that list because of their ground size how much money English Premier League football generates.

They have no European pedigree to speak of.

davegtt 22 April 2009 10:18 AM

oh ho, username mistake :lol1:

That is what makes a club big though, it's fan base and the revenue that follows. Just because they haven't won anything doesn't make them a small club. 50k regular gate numbers and 17th in revenue in Europe makes them a big club whether you like it or not. You can be a big club and win nothing and you can be a small club and win lots - the number of trophies alone does not dictate the size of a club.

Turbo2 22 April 2009 11:04 AM

How many of that 20 team rich-list will be playing 2nd tier football next year then? In that case I am sure Newcastle will drop off this list. Would that still mean they are a big club though?

Bravo2zero_sps 22 April 2009 11:22 AM

Depends if they still keep the fan base and the revenue. When Juventus played 2nd tier football did it mean they stopped being a big club? Nope.

They were similar shirts and that's where the comparisons end :lol1:

Exactly, Chelsea ;) Morning Paul, Ritchie, Wiley :thumb:

Turbo2 22 April 2009 12:08 PM

No, but don't forget that for the 2005 - 2006 season Juventus were in 3rd place on this list (above Man Utd) with about £200 million turnover prior to their enforced relegation! They immediately lost over 40% of their turnover and dropped to 12th when in Serie B and improved slightly to 11th when back in Serie A again. I dare say they will move up again in the next list.

Newcastle will not be starting from such a strong position as 3rd in the rich-list if they go down. Let's say Newcastle were to lose 40% of their £99.4m turnover in case of relegation? Where would £60m rank them? That equates to the transfer fee for just 2 players for some of the proper big boys.

Bravo2zero_sps 22 April 2009 12:44 PM

That's what I said though, all depends if they keep the turnover and fan base going. If they don't and they drop out the top 20 they aren't up there as one of the big teams any more. For me that top 20 dictates who is a big club as financial figures don't lie - well as long as they aren't submitted by George Graham or El Tel ;)

messiah 22 April 2009 01:04 PM

Hope the Newcastle V Boro match is on telly as I think by then, if either loses one of them will go down there and then...

There's no possible way they can keep the turnover going at such a level in the Championship. As for the fan base, well I guess that will dwindle too, along with the numbers of visiting away fans: I mean I doubt that the MK Dons or Peterborough Utd have quite such a strong travelling support as Man U, Liverpool etc.
