Definative Answer: What Turbo?
....SHOULD be fitted to my MY97 WRX GC8D48D. It is fitted with a TD04 L as far as I can make out. What is fitted to yours as standard?
Cheers, Jonny. |
Assuming it's your saloon in 'VMS', then OEM fitment should be a IHI VF22 turbo fitted (with 440cc injectors)
If wagon, then the smaller VF23 (and 380cc injectors) |

Sure it's the STi that has the VF series. I always thought the classic wrx had a TD05??
dnc Late 96 onwards vf22 then in the last years vf29 STIs had vf23,vf24 and vf28 The OPs car shouldn't have a td04 as they were JDM wagon and UK saloon/wagon turbos |

So it has the wrong turbo on.
|
lol.
Yes, after all that shenanigans, the OEM fitment should be the IHI VF22 for a MY97 WRX saloon. Bottom line is that if you want to mod, then your 'wrong' TD04L will only get you to about 280bhp :(, whereas the VF22 is prob good for upto 350bhp :)... |
