HP Laptop Power Supply - Tips for disassembly?
I've got a HP laptop. The power cable has broken right where it comes out of the power supply, so I thought I'd take it apart and solder it to reconnect it.
Anyone have any clues as to how I might get the PSU apart before I set to it with the "brute force and ignorance" approach? |
Dont bother...
You,ll find the unit is a solid block :) :( They tend to use potting compound to encapsulate the whole board. And to stop you repairing it :( Mart |
Damn... it does feel pretty solid.
Equivalent supplies don't seem to cost the earth on fleaby, so I think it will get treated to one of those rather than forking out for a HP part. Cheers. |
I disassembled my Sony laptop power supply when the same thing happened.
It was glued rather than screwed so just needed a bit of gentle persuasion with a sharp knife and a screwdriver blade. Didn't look quite the same when it went back together but at least it worked and was safe due to me re-glueing and taping the seams. I got a cheapo one as a backup and it broke in the exactly the same place except only a month later rather than years. I'd get the HP one if I were you - buy cheap = buy twice. |
