Rough bhp estimate

will be adding my first mods to my 97 uk turbo wagon next week.
Roughly what sort of power should i be seeing?

std TD04
Walbro fuel pump
Decat 3" exhaust with matching downpipe
Induction kit
running around 12psi of boost

Thanks

As the car or is the car going to be mapped, if not may get a few bhp increase.

sean turbo2000 15 January 2009 02:32 PM

wont be mapped just yet, will be an apexi pfc going on it in a few weeks time

StiX 15 January 2009 02:58 PM

My UK Turbo was 230bhp before mapping, and 273bhp after with the following mods:

Ninja Sportscat downpipe
Magnex 2.5" middle and backbox
JR panel filter
3 port boost solenoid.

Mapped via Ecutek Tek3.

DaveBeck 15 January 2009 03:04 PM

around 250 at 12psi

sorry just to clarify:
The mods are exhaust and filter.
Standard boost, standard ecu etc?

You'll be lucky to get 10 or 15bhp imo from that.
Add a dawes and raise the boost you'll get more

Induction kit should help lose a few BHP :)

So it looks like i wont be seeing much gains untill i get the PFC on then,
are there anymore worthwhile mods worth doing before i take it in to get mapped, il be happy with 280-300bhp on the pfc for now

Tidgy 16 January 2009 12:54 PM

280bhp on a td04 is pretty rare, 260bhp/260ftlb are pretty much the average. to get near 300 you need to change the turbo and injectors to 440's ( i think the 97 are 380, but not positive on that so check else where)

andywiddss1 16 January 2009 01:05 PM

change the turbo to td05 u will have a better chance

See my scoob for mods to get you to around 300 brake with TD05

Tidgy 16 January 2009 01:09 PM

bit extream mods wise for 338 isn't it t5?

im running 340 with less mods than that, all be it with a vf34

GreenTurbo98 16 January 2009 02:37 PM

A small increase in boost below the fuel cut should give you ~250bhp I would guess. Remap using the TD04 on your existing 380cc injectors ~280bhp.

Not according to Andy F as long as you have it mapped for the car;)

Mine got 290 from standard td04 turbo with cat up pipe

sounds, overoptimistic tbh, was thata delta dash reading by any chance?

although its not impossible, tis very rare indeed

I'd personally get a decent 2nd hand TD05H 16G for about a £100 but 'splash out' on a pukka set of flow-matched 550cc injectors from Mark at Lateral.

Then, with the PFC mapped at approx c.1.35bar, 320-330bhp with similar torque! And, importantly, just below the gearbox stress threshold!... Enjoy. :)

help2003 20 January 2009 11:06 PM

I got the car and it was running 269bhp, since then i have installed a full 3" decat, and got ride of the blitz air filter and placed a standard one in, got my hands on a vf23 cheap, and been speaking to Andy F and JGM and they have both said the standard air filter is better, unless your going for big numbers,

I asked them both what would i be seeing after i install the new vf23 and fuel pump, and remap, and got told by both 320 to 330bhp on my standard injectors, which i will be very happy with, dont want to go any higher and blow the gearbox.
