Capital One (and other credit cards)
Just received a letter today from CAP 1 stating I'm £9.75 overdrawn on a transaction from Oct 2008.
I cancelled my credit card in Aug 2008. After 2 very difficult phone calls to India, and one to Nottingham, it transpires that because I didn't cancel an ongoing quarterly payment (to Which? Legal services as it happens :lol1:) the credit card company can still let these payments be paid even though the credit card has been cancelled. I never knew that was the case, and I admit that I should have remembered to phone Which? to change my payments, but to be able to still release monies from a closed account just seems so wrong. They also claim to have sent me 3 statements and 2 arrears letters in that time. Funnily enough, I received none. Anyway, just a word of warning to you all :thumb: |
more and more companies are claiming to be sending out letters that people dont receive. i call it very very suspicious

If you cancelled via letter, then under the Consumer Credit Act you ceased to have any form of contract with Cap1 thus do not need to pay the amount claimed.
