Check coolant level.

Sounds like it might not even have a thermostat in it, check to see if it has not been removed. ( requires draining the coolant, and removing the stat housing)

HTH :)

yes coolant level is fine although i was going to drain and do a 70/30 antifreeze mix{af being the 30} the thermostate housing looks a nightmate to get at any easy way or anyone with pics plz?

Piece of pi$$ m8.

Easiest from underneath, but you will get wet.

2x 10mm head bolts, where the bottom radiator hose meets the engine.

ok usually on end of top hose on every other car ive had

Martin0711 13 December 2008 08:02 AM

definatley sounds like a knackered thermostat or like previously stated "the lack of one".

ive noticed on other cars ive had that you can buy different temperature stats is this the same on scoobys and if so anyone know the best one to get?

LOL! Only about 45mins ago the postie delivered a Zero Sports one (from mark@lateralperformance.co.uk, £45 + VAT).

It opens at 71deg C (instead of the OEM one's 78), so should keep ave temps down (my WRX temps are slightly higher than normal :wonder:, hence the purchase :thumb:).

Oh and yes, I expect your stat is stuck in the open position or, as has been mentioned, not present for some reason :wonder:.

have just notice that they sell hi flow stats on ebay with seal for £15 would anyone recommend?

hed a look underneath this morning, yep found it its located to the passenger side of engine, that right?

Yes that is correct and dont buy the cheap crap off ebay, as you will end up buying twice. Do it once and get a zerosports thermostat from Mark @ Lateral performance :)

Yes, stat housing at bottom of block on passenger side with rad bottom hose going to it (I think the housing bolts to the waterpump assembly).

gav, also see my thread here for, hopefully, some more ongoing answers...
