external wastegate?

hi, can someone please explane what benifits an external wastegate does, thanks phil.

An external wastegate works the same as an internal wastegate, it bleeds of exhaust gasses to regulate turbo boost. On larger turbo's they are externally gated for a number of reasons, the main one being that on high horspower setups it would become a restriction if it was internally gated. look at the size of external wastegates and you will soon realise that you could not fit it inside a turbime housing while allowing it to work efficiently and at the same time not spoiling the flow withing the turbine housing itslef.

thanks for coming to my rescue again, i never really thought about it before but it all makes sense now, ill sort one and get it welded in with the manifold im making, im guessing you have a 60mm one for max flow, thanks again, phil.
