British Comedy Awards 2008

Best comedy actor - Ricky Gervais.

They ARE having a f**king laugh.

How WRONG is that? I could have sworn I heard someone in the audience calling out "f**k off!" when he was announced. Totally agree. Can't stand the man.

Jamz3k 06 December 2008 10:55 PM

I have to agree, he's ****e.

Although i thought The Office was ****e, but apparently thats cus i'm not cool enough to find unfunny things entertaining like other sheep:thumb:

stevebt 06 December 2008 10:58 PM

I agree, I watched quite a few episodes of The Office and found it dire, Extras was crap as well, not to mention his so-called stand ups which are awful. I have tried to understand why people think he is funny but he does absoultely nothing for my funny bone so I'll never watch anything he does.

corradoboy 06 December 2008 11:04 PM

Never found the appeal of Gervais either

because its cool to find him funny whether or not its actually funny. Its a bit like Curb Your Enthusiam. Apparently its all about hidden humour:cuckoo:

moff1888 06 December 2008 11:12 PM

I loved the office and extras however cringeworthy I found it, however I don't get how he got the award as I haven't seen much of him recently.

MrJim 06 December 2008 11:12 PM

Have to agree never found him funny think he,s absolute sh--e

bioforger 06 December 2008 11:46 PM

Well I think he's a comic genius :)

scoobybubbles 07 December 2008 01:05 AM

ive never found him funny, however i went to see his film at the pictures, something about ghosts! and that was imho one of the funniest films ive ever seen! and his lil speech tonight when getting the award in bed with george micheal, i thought was rather funny to! cant stand the office though! my husband works in an office and thinks its genious! maybe its only suited to those who live the office life!

scoobybubbles 07 December 2008 01:05 AM

that would make Ilda Ogden my hero then!! lol

Ricky Gervais was at his best on 11 o'clock show before he did the office etc.. He was ****in hilarious on that.

Probably not the best example but it's pretty funny towards the end
YouTube - Ricky gervais - The 11 O'Clock show WW2 skit

more like it
YouTube - Ricky Gervais - 11 'O' Clock Show

I do like the office.. sort of. I actually prefer the American version lol

Never quite got the point of Extra's but I only watched a couple.

Scotsman 07 December 2008 07:11 AM

Ricky Gervais is god. The Office and Extra's were fantastic - another well deserved award :)

I agree, but I don't like his movie appearances - he just seems to be turning into a bit of a stereotype - an annoying one at that.

If you don't find Curb Your Enthusiasm funny, there's something wrong. It's not hidden humour at all.

You can't tell me that accusing Ted Danson of masturbating in your spare bed isn't funny.

hodgy0_2 07 December 2008 09:29 AM

Comedy is more devisive than religion, heres mine

Lenny Henry -- not funny, ever
French/Saunders -- not funny, ever (Ab Fab complete tosh)
Lee Evans-- not funny, ever
eddie izzard-- not funny, ever
That Scottish bloke -- the Big Yin not funny ever (cant even be bothered to remember his name)
Ken Block -- Not funny or clever
4 non blonds -- was this **** supposed to be funny

The Royal Family -- not funny
IT Crowd -- Total crap

Ricky Gervaise -- in The Office, sublime but Extras Rubbish
Blackadder --- all series, again, sublime funny and moving
Steve Cougan --- gone totally off the rails when not playing Alan Partridge
(if you havnt listened to the original Radio 4 Knowing me Knowing you tapes -- do coz its very funny)
only fools and horses -- given some of the best comedy moments
Brass Eye -- funny and clever

oh and Monkey Tennis -- never made it but would have been funny if they did

ok -- fire away

scoobynutta555 07 December 2008 09:36 AM

Add Victoria Wood to your list of crap. And that show with the woman in the ginger wig, Gimmie Gimmie? Vicar of Dribley must be the worst thing on TV, ever.

dpb 07 December 2008 09:51 AM

difficult to define comedy !

I thought Vicar Dibley was tosh for middle + aged coach potatoes - but muy sis whoos a fair bit brighter an succesful has liked it for the last 10 years, 42 now.
I think Gervais is another very good observer - but i could never get into the office etc im afriad ,

AAARRRGGHHH!!!! Victoria Wood, even more unfunny than Jo Brand.

I watched "Jimmy Carr Live: Comedian" on Friday night. He should be done under the trade descriptions act he was so bad.

Ricky Gervais a god? don't fancy your religion much :):):)

David Lock 07 December 2008 10:42 AM

Could I just add that I think Russel Brand is a foul mouthed, unfunny little sh1t?

Thank you :)

dl

PS.

Alan B'Stard for me :thumb:

STi-Frenchie 07 December 2008 10:44 AM

Hmmm...that's a toughie for me there David. I used to not like R. Brand but watching his Ponderland has had me laughing out loud.

Added: at least he makes me laugh unlike that other bloke...what's his name? Oh yes, Gervais :):):)

Leslie 07 December 2008 12:03 PM

We seem to have lost most of the really good comedians that we used to have.

Les

scoobybubbles 07 December 2008 12:07 PM

anyone like harry enfield? i like alan carr! i think he is ace! gay as hell but i love him!

STi-Frenchie 07 December 2008 12:10 PM

Yes we do Les, and where was Dara O'Briain in last night's nominations? Mock The Week didn't get a look in and it's brilliant!! I saw DO'B in Rhyl a few weeks back and he was hilarious in his stand up show. Peter Kay didn't even get a mention for his p-take on all the reality shows and surely that was better and the Extras Christmas Special (2007 duh!) which won an award. FIX? Did someone say FIX? Oh yes, that would be me then!

HankScorpio 07 December 2008 12:27 PM

I just finished watching MTW Too Hot for TV and if you want a laugh, that'll do the trick.

Frankie Boyle - Foul mouthed, disrespectful and motherfoofin' hilarious
Russell Howard - Very funny young man, love when he takes the pee in a west country accent.
Andy Parsons - Always liked since he was on Radio2 with Henry Naylor
Dara O'Briain - Funny on the show, hilarious doing standup.

All except AP have new DVDs out, all on the amazon wishlist.

RG - one trick pony
RB - ditto

Bonehead 07 December 2008 12:58 PM

He's not a Brit but this guy's my fav at the moment

zip106 07 December 2008 02:41 PM

There's a black guy with big sideburns, been on a few stand up comedy shows recently.
Can't remember his name but he was very funny.

Also, another big black guy (American) who often appears on HIGNFY. Again, very funny.

STi-Frenchie 07 December 2008 02:42 PM

Stephen K Amos maybe?

David Lock 07 December 2008 03:25 PM

Barack somebody? :D
