Might be worth a look if you have some spare cash.

I went to the Nottm auction yesterday of general antiques/clocks and collectables and stuff either didn't sell or only just reached the min valuation price.

Some interesting looking bits on there, I'd have to do a lot of research before going to an auction as I've no idea on prices at all.

Right up my street:

just remeber the 20% + vat buyers premium, but even with that you'll get a good watch for that money.. if it doesn't fo too high.

There's some nice Cartier's that an Asian collecter's selling, LOS 155 + 154
Property of an Asian Collector Subject to 17.55 VAT and 0.35% Import Duty on the Hammer Price

the vat rate will be down by the time thsi auctions comes around.

GC8 29 November 2008 05:21 PM

Some valuations seem extremely conservative, even allowing for the buyers premium.

salsa-king 29 November 2008 06:36 PM

even in todays credit crunch?

GC8 29 November 2008 08:02 PM

I doubt that the 'credit crunch' will affect peoples bids on a used £200 Longines watch!

RJM25R 29 November 2008 08:44 PM

I thought that. the longines is a mechanical wind-up though so isn't to a lot of peoples taste. . . . If it reaches 250 it'll be 345 all in, including 20% fee and vat.

fatscoobfella1 29 November 2008 09:09 PM

Some nice IWC's there..;)

May have a punt..

Nat 29 November 2008 09:10 PM

Some nice JlC's too....

On the 'net, i've ssen them advertised at £1400 dollars (us) thats around £700 isn't it?

Half price at £350

salsa-king 01 December 2008 06:21 PM

I think you can do telephone bids and internet 'live' bids too if that helps anyone bidding.

salsa-king 10 December 2008 06:10 PM

did anyone go and buy anything today?

RJM25R 10 December 2008 09:46 PM

I wussed out in the end. It was my sons nativity at school. Too much bad karma if I'd missed that for a watch auction. . . .

salsa-king 10 December 2008 11:22 PM

how much did the watch you liked go for?

Nat 11 December 2008 06:37 AM

I was at work. Was supposed to have finished for the year on tues but the whole team i was working with called in sick  Back in again today too, i must be mad.

fatscoobfella1 11 December 2008 07:44 AM

Forgot :(

Brain like a sieve..:(

Luke 11 December 2008 08:37 AM

Dont worry. the next one will be even better !! Prices have fallen so much that some dealers i know will not even buy. They are too scared of losing even more money.

And as for classic cameras !!!

GC8 11 December 2008 11:19 AM

I'll put my OM2 back in the loft then..... :(

speedking 11 December 2008 01:28 PM

So the Longines Avigation, estimate £150-250, sold for £380  Scoobynet should get a commission on that

Most stuff went for £2-300 over the estimates. The two rolexes I looked at weren't such bargains once you added the 20% and 15% on TBH.

I did say that I thought the valuations low, even allowing for the addition of buyers premium and VAT.
