baffled sumps

hi all i am looking to fit a baffled sump to my ra track car but i am usure what to go for, there is one via ebay from rowleys race and rally or one through carl davey, or do i go for the cosworth baffle plate?

is anyone using such kits orcan make a suggestion?

can the sump be remove and refitted easily enough without removing the headers?

any help would be appreciated thanks

API do them on an exchange basis for your old one

RA-grant 23 November 2008 09:48 PM

any idea how much and what they are like?

overlord 23 November 2008 10:03 PM

I have a arc high capacity sump and a cosworth sump baffle for sale at the moment :thumb:

I think you would probably have to unbolt the engine and move it forward to get to sump it should be easy enough though

As performance do them exchange for £80 ;)

WUZ 23 November 2008 10:34 PM

Another AS performance recommendation from me too!

Not the same level as The Rowleys garage one but also nowhere near the price either. I think Alyn's ones are group N rally spec.

John Felstead does a excellent baffled sump at £425 + exchange.

will the asperfomance jobie be up to regular trackdays?

whats it like?

anyone using the cosworth baffle on track?

APIDavid 24 November 2008 03:39 PM

The APi Baffled sump is £150.00 + VAT exchange and is well proven on track days.

Or we now offer a copy of the Prodrive rally one at £350.00 + VAT exchange. This has a complete removable centre and baffle plate with alloy feed pipe. So that IF you break your engine the sump can be cleaned and re-used which is not the case with our cheaper one, or probably any other welded up type.

We have stock of either at the moment.

anyone have an idea whats better the cosworh tray or the asp sump?

dynamix 27 November 2008 07:02 AM

The cosworth baffle plate works very well in mine. I also have the later twin scroll sump which is better overall design and does not suffer as much surge like earlier and single scroll sumps.

As far as I can see with these modified sumps is that they are welding around the edges and welding two small plates in to cover two drainback holes then cleaning/respraying it. That to my mind is not 'baffled'. Admittedly it does seem to improve things from what I read and from people that have them.

Carl Davey did a review of John Felstead's baffled sumps here with some nice photos.

OR a PROPER Group N sump with removeable centre panel and baffle A-LA Prodrive, so that when [:D ] the engine blows you can clean it out. £350.00 + VAT.

Photo's sent upon request, to a proper email address [ not S'net Pm's, I can't figure that system out.]

Where the older style welded up one that we still sell occasionally, is a throw away once it gets full of debris.

The old style served well for many years, as it is very effective. Trouble we had was, that we sent them and then got a phone call a few days later from the buyer who advised, ' that he already had a baffled sump ' :nono:

Not quite true, as all he had done was see what we do, copy it and send ours back for a refund.....

Once we twigged this when the 3rd one came back, we advised no returns allowed.:lol1:

Dont you think that a fairer pricing policy would solve that issue David rather than charging £150 for a few welds and then being surprised when people send it back ?

APIDavid 27 November 2008 10:11 AM

I guess you must have been one of the returnees then?

dynamix 27 November 2008 10:15 AM

Nope - not me. But having seen some of these I can understand why people would send them back. Not that there is anything wrong with them, far from it, just that they will judge how long it would take them to do it themselves or a friend that can weld a bit and balance that against the cost.

banny sti 27 November 2008 10:26 AM

I was a returnee back in 2005, when I had my engine rebuilt and I was telling the truth about the car already having a baffled sump from Japan. Not best pleased about your comments David!

You're too sensitive, I didn't mention any names.

Now everyone knows.

We have sold hundreds all over the world. Never a complaint about value or effectiveness. They are basic sure, but given the cost asked for alternatives, they fit a budget and work.

What more can someone ask for ?

David I prefer being honest and having things out in the open :thumb:
