If you use the basic text editor instead of the advanced/WYSIWYG editor, the option isn't there. Plus you need to download the program for it to work.

Tel, you'll like this checker. As it does not correct grammar, it allows you to use "i" instead of I. Disadvantage is it prefers American spellings :lol1:

I currently only use the basic editor, main reason being: Server response and Page loads can be a bit quicker during busy periods (sometimes my end, sometimes SN's). :)

and politics should be treated like txt speak too :-)

I've had my doubts about self moderation, i've always thought that a proper moderating team makes far better decisions than the community. whilst ok in theory a small minority spoil it for the rest.

I'm pretty happy with how this is heading.

On the subject of the Infraction History, from what I can see, since the changes, the only people who can see your infraction history on your User CP are, yourself and the admin/mods. If this is really the case then is there a problem with having the history left there if no 'normal' users can see it?

Unless I'm wrong, it is actually quite a chore to actually delete infractions, as you need to view the infractions in the admin control panel, select the infraction type, for example, trolling, then you will see a list of all the infractions, be they active or reversed. You then have to click the delete option to remove each and every infraction, and when you click delete it asks for confirmation, so that's another click needed.
If we take the example of the trolling infraction class, there will be well over a hundred instances, and you'll need to manually delete them all. As you can see it's a bit of a chore.

Of course, an sql query could be written to do this, but you'd need to know sql and also where the infractions are located. I think that you could do it using phpmyadmin (or another sql database admin tool) and removing all entries from the vb_infraction table, but I'm no expert on this type of thing, though I did just try this on my test setup and it did appear to work, but I'm talking about a very small database.

Im sure that we both know who he is, but the trolling and sh*te-spouting pslewis persona isnt amusing.

But that would depend on your sense of humour, personally don't think he is that bad and there are a few on here who i think are a bunch of c***s but they are entitled to their opinions and i don't think they should be banned either :)

It really is nice to see some changes, even if it is stuff like smilies. It gives the the impression that "those in charge" actually give a stuff. The change in infractions, extra mods, changes to the GUI are positive steps. There is also the positive effect that people feel that they can make suggestions, and they'll at least get listened to. A grown-ups area for the more outspoken/salacious/seditious/un-pc threads could make things a bit more interesting, whilst making it safer for those of a delicate nature, or junior members in the main forums. Let's face it, if you buy a Sun newspaper, the chances are there'll be boobies in it, so if a forum has an area clearly labeled as a grown-up's area then if your easily offended, you can choose not to enter. A bit like Fight Club.

Another Vbulletin board I'm a member of has an adult section, nothing vulgar, ie no hard core porn or anything, just a section which is password protected and you can't actually see the section if you know what I mean? But it keeps the (what might be offensive to others) stuff away from the main boards, and it works very well! I think SN would be a better place with a place like that!

Just IMHO:

I don't think the purpose/function of an adults only forum hasn't been identified particularly well. At the moment I'm not convinced it would add anything to SN.

Topics that are intended to provoke in a humourous way go in fight club
Topics that are destined to descend into silliness, the hutch,
Topics that are about current affairs, NSR. It doesn't make a difference if they're hot topics; all posters should be mature enough to contribute in a civil manner or keep quiet.

People being nasty/obnoxious/trolling aren't welcome anywhere on SN!
I'm not sure IB would want more explicit nudity on a site they run (God I hope they do!) :lol1: If not, well that's that one out of the window.

Fundamentally, I don't think it's the under 18s that cause the trouble on here to be honest! ;) :D
