Are you having anti-lag & launch control as well

samcowrx 27 November 2008 09:50 PM

No mate, no real use for it at the moment, anti lag is a bit of a toy, the car will make an appearance up the pod asap, but i hope to trust my launch rather than a launch that could be set up in the wrong conditions.

trails 28 November 2008 06:17 PM

is it done yet?! :D

ps May be joining the Simtec club sooner than I thought too ;)

samcowrx 28 November 2008 08:08 PM

Tomorrow mate!!!!, bit of work to do on the car in the morning, then its booked in for 2.30pm.

samcowrx 29 November 2008 07:35 PM

it is now done, pretty much faultless performance from Bob Rawle and my wagon, absolutely pulls like a train!, all the hard work was and is worth it, she is now one quick wagon!!

samcowrx 29 November 2008 07:40 PM

I would like to say a big thanks to Bob Rawle, he is a gent, very patient, and puts up with all the silly questions!, actually i think really enjoys the whole process, cheers!

trails 30 November 2008 02:22 PM

come on Sam, we want more detail than that :D

samcowrx 30 November 2008 02:33 PM

A few pics of my wagon, sort of finished now, some handling mods like anti lift etc will be next as it is a handful in the damp!, I have got some new P1 Bilstein suspension, as new condition lined up, to go on.

Estimate from Bob is 380bhp with 360ft/lb's the bloody wagon flies, pulls like ****!! Very pleased, you were right trails, a nice warm feeling when you think about what you did to the car and how it is turned out, especially when Bob says something like "the engine is fine, its a good car", thats all you need to hear to know you have done it right!, power map is a full on 1.5 bar map, the second map is a 1.2 bar map, 1.5 bar pulls to red line nicely, boost response is a lot quicker than i thought it would be with the 20g, lag is not noticeable and as far as i am concerned is out of the equation, power delivery with the simtek is as smooth as silk!, now running no BOV, sounds awesome, and now also mafless, which as far as i can tell, aids in the smooth power delivery.
thanks

trails 01 December 2008 10:12 AM

sounds good Sam, glad Bob gave it a clean bill of health too :)

Have you no plans to go for a funny fuel mix with the second map...thats one of my main reasons for going Simtek :D

banny sti 01 December 2008 11:03 AM

Doing the same with my car, one map for straight v power and another for v power/methanol and nf :norty:

samcowrx 01 December 2008 05:27 PM

Very good idea, never thought of that, i was hoping to get a good pb time up the pod, this could be the way!

samcowrx 04 December 2008 09:04 PM

On my phase 1 inlet manifold, there are the four large o ring type seals that sit in the large holes at the base of the IM, and each one of the the injector rail cups sit into these to form a seal, my car currently has a high idle, i have just swapped the idle valve, and re checked all the inlet to head bolts, all seems fine, but i still have this annoying idle, 2300 revs!.

I mention the injector rail to IM seals as when i push down on the front drivers side injector the revs drop down to what they should do!, if there was a leak there would it cause my stupid idle problem? i.e. would that be the air leak?, should it be pissing fuel? i probaly need to fit a new seal?, any thoughts welcome, please!!

Mmm, sorry Sam beyond me.

You may want to consider posting on 22b.com, lots of people that have been there and done that as far as Subaru tuning goes.

samcowrx 06 December 2008 11:43 AM

Right, i have found the problem, my inlet manifold has a crack in it where i overtightened it, i have decided to buy a new refurbed one, new insulators also etc, this has happened somehow by overtightening by hand!, i was unaware this was even possible, i did not do them up tight at all, might be something for all you lot to consider if doing the same things as me.

Wish me luck, will strip it down tomorrow, and get some pics up, its a shame really, i tried my hardest to refurb the original inlet well enough to look good, buy hey ho, this what modding is all about i suppose!!!

trails 06 December 2008 12:34 PM

**** luck Sam :( but at least you have found the problem...good luck with it :)

samcowrx 06 December 2008 12:35 PM

Mocom have spacers in stock if you need them I think, Give Zak a ring and tell him I sent you:thumb:

samcowrx 06 December 2008 01:00 PM

Ok mate, its just carl does a good price on refurbed inlets dude, its just easier than doing it myself, or repairing this one!

samcowrx 08 December 2008 05:41 PM

I ordered a refurbed sti v2 inlet manifold today, with new insulators, and bolts from David at API, he had one already painted in sti red crinkle on the shelf, which is nice!, should be with me tomorrow.
I havent taken my old one off yet, but cant wait to get the car back up and running!

samcowrx 08 December 2008 05:42 PM

I am an impatient soul, cant get hold of Carl Davey!

samcowrx 09 December 2008 09:17 PM

Right then lets start again!, my new oe phase 1 inlet , freshly refurbed from David at API, good deal on it, spacers should be here tomorrow, cant wait to get the car back up and running!, just racking my brains to see if there is anything else i can do to the car while my inlet is off again that i did not do last time it was off!? Let me know if you think of anything? (Trails) hehe

Can anyone tell me off the top of their head what the OD is of a early classic green label maf is?, i am now running mafless so would like to buy a piece of pipe the same OD to replace the maf so to remove it from the car,
thanks

samcowrx 10 December 2008 08:01 PM

Jay m A 11 December 2008 12:37 PM

It is 80mm

samcowrx 12 December 2008 09:04 PM

thanks mate, just cleaned out my garage a bit, so i can at least get the front of my car in tomorrow morning to swap the IM over, supposed to be **** weather!, wish me luck.

samcowrx 13 December 2008 09:59 PM

Pulling my hair out now!, three good heads have been trying to diagnose this high idle fault today, 730 am till 9 pm!, no further forward, new inlet, been on and off three times today, eliminated inlet to head gasket fault, idle valve, any obvious air leaks, tps, all gaskets!, all is left now is cracked head, although the car runs and boosts fine still!, or electrical, idle does come down to normal though when i push down hard on the drivers side head???

mbd sti2 13 December 2008 11:45 PM

just read last post you must have an air leak when u over tightened the inlet manifold is it poss you damaged the head or gasket surface :(

samcowrx 14 December 2008 12:58 PM

Found the prolem, the loom had melted on the headers near the bottom of the rad.
