321h how much torque?

had my car at rr today 2.0 sti7 with md 321h + all supporting mods made 384bhp but only 325 lbs torque. what torque figures are other 321h owners seeing on a 2.0 as i thought this seemed a little low .
thanks dean.

hi mate i have the 321h on mine took mine for r/r last week made 377bhp with 341torque l i wasn't happy thought i would be nearer the 390bhp with a little less torque, with my mods on a 2.0 sti8 :thumb: but as i've been told figures aren't everything it's driveability.:thumb: but still not happy:(

samcowrx 01 November 2008 11:34 PM

sti dean, you say all supporting mods?, what have you done?, and what rr is that from?, the torque does seem a little low, but how does the car drive?, thats the main thing.

almost identical figure of what mine produced when i was on the 321h.i got 383bhp and 320 torque, some get more torque but some dont it could be the way the dyno is opperated.if the car drives ok i shouldnt worry.

What boost level are you running it at in the midrange and topend ?

Lateral Performance 02 November 2008 11:28 AM

Guys, it's unusual for a turbo that spools up early, to make low torque, if anything, the opposite is true. Circa 375ftlbs isn't uncommon on a car making around 400bhp.

It would be very helpful to see the graphs, with the boost profile.

How do they actually feel on the road at circa 3500rpm ?

Mark.

supporting mods are md321h,gt spec headers,3" exhaust system with sports cat in 2nd cat position,650cc injectors, 255 pump, big cone filter, samco induction pipe, simtec ecu.

IRC450STI 02 November 2008 11:46 AM

I had the MD321H and it made 400BHP 380ftlbs on a 2ltr with surporting mods etc.

Power Junkie 02 November 2008 02:02 PM

I am now around 415bhp with about 360ftlb will lost of supporting mods.

JimmyBFC 02 November 2008 02:23 PM

Torque is everything, much more impressive than plain old bhp.

LOL if torque is 'everything' then why not just get a turbodiesel? :)

Lateral Performance 02 November 2008 03:13 PM

Dean,

It doesn't help that the car was run in 3rd gear, especially on a 6 speed box. This means that whilst it's safer, and less stress on the engine, it's hard to get much load to spool the turbo up.

The graph shows peak boost at 4200rpm, I'm sure much later than you would generally get it on the road. At least I would certainly expect you to get it much earlier on the H.

sti.dean 02 November 2008 03:52 PM

if the car had been run in 5th would it have made much difference to bhp a torque?

Because I have enough for now with 400lbs/ft ;)

I thought all 6 speeds are normally run in 4th on the dyno too....oh dear, scoobyclinic do it again :lol1:

Why would they do it in 3rd, is there a reason?

I'm running a very similar spec to yours and it's going on the dyno on Wednesday (Zen's rollers which are apparently quite conservative) so I'll let you know how I get on

dunx 02 November 2008 04:17 PM

No roller info for mine, but deffo late 4000's to reach maximum boost !

Yes, it does need a re-re-map so hope that helps.

MD321H, Lateral headers, catted TSL 2.5/3" exhaust.

It would have little effect on BHP, but running two gears higher would greatly effect the torque.

wrx9181 02 November 2008 06:46 PM

doesnt loads of torque kill the gear box anyway:wonder:

not on the 6 speed it dont.

Have you got an exhaust/uppipe leak ?

Lateral Performance 02 November 2008 10:01 PM

Duncan,

When you say it needs a re-map, has it been mapped since the H was fitted ? Late 4k rpm is just plain wrong.

On theirs I get 372bhp and 356lbft.

What have you had done this time?

Hi M

Having some gauges and engine mounts fitted. Paul is going to tweek the map while I'm there but the main thing is to get it on the RR and see exactly where we're at with power/torque :norty:

stevie1982 03 November 2008 04:59 PM

any more pointers on this guys, was looking to go with the md321h on my pq in the new year just getting the last few supporting mods first. how does this compare to the vf28 in driving charteristics

dannytwo 03 November 2008 05:09 PM

mine runs at 395bhp but more importantly 430torque.
it is a 2.5 tho

stevie1982 03 November 2008 05:14 PM

what ''SHOULD'' these make on a 2.0ltr (p1) with the correct supporting mods, fmic, injectors, induction, fuel pump, headers re-map etc

dunx 03 November 2008 06:55 PM

Nope !

Yes, correct, it needs a re-map, but after recently adding an oil pressure gauge, the future looks forged....

Grumpy Dunx

Its more stressful on the clutch if abused hard

Forged is the way to go, im having drop in rod conversion, nice big fat turbo kit, uprated injectors and a nice 500/550bhp/450lbs hopefully :norty:
