HID Kits Question

Hi,

I had my HID kit installed yesterday by an auto eletrician.

He show me where they put the ballasts.
They were not were many on here suggest, but basically one was to the left of the air box and he said they had to be bolted to metal?

Seemed weird to me?

Another question.
When I turn on the lights there is an instant flash then slightly dim and they then take a second or so to become bright again.
Main beam seemed to do the same?

Maybe this is normal, but I don't know.

Thanks
Shaun

perfectly normal mate...! The flash is a high voltage 'spike' that ignites the gas in the bulb....

As for bolting it.... Mine are only stuck down with double sided tape.... All working well so far :D

My driving lights do the same, and their ballasts are zip-tied on, have been for 5 years;)

Thanks guys,

The place that fitted them showed me both dipped & main beam yesterday.

But last night in complete darkness was the first time I'd switched on myself.

So, started the car, switched on the lights and immediately thought, feck it a blulb has blown!

They are quite bright I must say

Hi Shaun,

Fixing somewhere firmly to minimize vibrations/movement is good. Being an auto-electrician they would have wanted to do it properly, hence bolting it to the body.

I have seen many different ways of mounting them though.

It is normal for HIDs to "spark" on startup.

Let us know what you think of them :thumb:

Thank you Bob.

What do I think.

We'll I must say that driving home last night about 9.30 I wasn't all that impressed from behind the wheel :(

However I think that my views were obscured by all those damn street lamps,
because closer to home (fewer street lights) I put the main beam on.

I reversed into my drive as always (main beam still on) and at that point I thought feck these are bright.

At that very point I decided to get out and have a look see.

I distinctly remember a red fiesta driving down my street with a driver and passenger.
They were obviously both very confused with the amount of light.
AND
It just looked like a big search light was pointing at them.

Overall I appear to be a happy chappy :D

Cheers,

Shaun
