What induction kit with a FMIC?

I'm going to be fitting a Hybrid GT Spec FMIC to my car soon but from looking at pictures i cant keep my airbox. So i'm guessing i need to get a decent induction kit. What do people recommend? Anything that i should avoid?

scoobysmiff 03 September 2008 07:11 PM

RCMS are about the best ones to get imo, they are not cheap but you really do get what you pay for.

WayneG555 03 September 2008 08:58 PM

Just had a look on their website and it's for a V3 onwards mine is a MY96 Version 2 STi. Any other ideas!!!

Nice big K&N cone and make up your own into the wing or through to the bumper vents.

myblackwrx 03 September 2008 09:02 PM

Apexi

scooby-tc 03 September 2008 09:10 PM

I ran a K&N 57i with my hybrid FMIC

CupraDave 03 September 2008 09:17 PM

Any dry filter induction kit, steer clear of the ones that use oil in the filter

The APEXi Power Intake is a dry filter where as the K&N's are oil filters (its the oil that retains the dirt), the oil from the K&N can be sucked through from the filter and play havoc with your MAF and potentially ruin it costing you more money in the long run.

Got an Apexi on my V2 as well... K&N`s are oiled and i`ve heard that can mess up your MAF

hux309 03 September 2008 09:39 PM

APEXi

Apexi or HKS SPF.

Non ABS Only however you would require a map tweek with this kit.

That one looks a good one keeps it out of the engine bay, but in the picture it looks like the engine is a V3? Would this fit my V2?

WRX_Dazza 04 September 2008 07:53 AM

I've got an HKS here, as recommended to me by Mocom Racing ;)

really please with the Hybrid FM, great value and great noise when coupled with a blocked off, ported td05 :)

-Spooky- 04 September 2008 10:56 AM

I would stay well clear of the HKS filters, they are horrible and sticky.

Stick with K&N or RCM if you can find one and you can't go wrong...

WayneG555 04 September 2008 01:33 PM

My local tuning company recommended the HKS one when i phoned up, just got to find one now!!!! I like the look of the one posted by *Un-ink* but don't think it will fit!

banny sti 04 September 2008 01:45 PM

The HKS is crap would not touch it with someone else's barge pole, apexi or K&N are the ones to go for:

I bet they always have these on the shelf as well? :Whatever_

Go for K&N or apexi, its your best bet... :thumb:

dannytwo 04 September 2008 04:12 PM

My first choice would be the APS induction kit, great piece of kit.

Problems with the APS CAIK (inner wing kit) are that they can make you run approx 30% lean untill mapped, and fitting a FMIC with it (ESPECIALLY a hybrid kit which is a PITA to fit anyway) will be a hard job, as it occupies the void in the wing that the IC pipework needs to use.

New_scooby_04 04 September 2008 04:54 PM

K&N57i probably the best. Works well and seems MAF friendly.

It's what I run with my hybrid.

Ns04

Forgot to add they are not recommended to be used with a hard air box pipe either... just FYI.

So where can you buy big F*** Off Apexi cones for a custom induction install ? Seems all the universal ones are the same ?:) :)

WayneG555 04 September 2008 06:51 PM

They recommended the HKS because they had had good results with them and they can be picked up quite cheaply. They don't stock them so that wasn't there incentive.

Is there ans APS kit for my car (MY96 Version 2 STi) and where from?

Wheres the best place for Apexi or K&N filters?

ScoobyWhite 04 September 2008 07:39 PM

I would like to know if someone already try the Greddy AIRINX filter??

Thanks

silent running 04 September 2008 07:39 PM

Got a K&N for mine, no problems whatsoever.

Slick81 04 September 2008 07:46 PM

Your best going with a large RCM cone.
