Well the conclusion I got from reading this thread is every cars different, so each car has to be mapped differently, weather its being mapped on the road or on the Dyno.

Yes there are pros and cons for both methods, but at the end of the day if your cars mapped and running sweet, then why fret?

Just drive it and enjoy it ;)

so now it depends on the car?????

Mapper is of primary importance!

It's a false dichotomy in any case. Many road mappers will use a RR from time to time and very few RR mappers wouldn't advocate on road tweaking. Both have advantages and disadvantages, the key is knowing which is of the greatest benefit for a given application.

You drive a car on the road though, so ultimately, that's where it has to cut it! Unless RR figures are your thing.

With regard to "re-maps"

Most "remaps" are already pre-done off the car and just uploaded (or an adjustment of the existing one). Then minor tweeks are done after running the car. Very rarely does a car have an entire new map configured from a clean sheet - and if that were the case, it would most often start off on a dyno, and then go out on a track for last final tweeks.

So really when a car is ran on a road or dyno its just having the new map tweeked. Both have their fors and againsts....with a dyno you can simulate a scienario over and over and over, whilst road tuning is a little more tricky - unless its done on a race track (like it should be, to all intents).

that seems to make sense:thumb:

Shark Man, as an example, all my base maps are done to suit the individual car as a starting point, having mapped as many cars as I have gives a big advantage in determining that starting point but how do you think I map my own car ? On the road.
That said I happily map on a dyno, I would never ever leave it at that and probably spend as much time on the road afterwards in some cases, that said there are certain dyno's both in and out of the UK that I now have callibration data for to minimise the road to dyno mapping differences However to get to that point has taken a lot of work on both sides.

best regards

Bob
