wide arch kits
 

Guys anyon got a 22b or wide arch kit fitted to thier classic's

just thinking of getting one but in two minds at the min, tried a post on the gallery but not much happening so thought i would put it in here

Wrong!!!! Have you seen how much work is needed to fit them? And if you have a 4 door you have to cut half your back door skin off to fit it!

As long as you have 2K to fit it id say do it as the end result looks great!

I did think about it for my car but that money could do so much more else were!

so do you have to cut that much out of the rear arch then?

also i thought the fronts were just bolt off bolt on as they supply the complete arch.

so really it would only be the price to fit the rear and paint 2k seems high

On a 2 door classic. Oh yes, do it.

4 door.:nono: Just looks stupid.
Subaru never did it for that very reason.







I would add that on the 4 door new age models, it does look good too.

infact most people dont even realise that mine is a widebody until its parked next to a stock car, which is as big a compliment as you can get IMO

subaru never made a 2 door newage model, that is why they did the 4 door :lol1:

you can cut as much or as little away as you like, it depends on what size wheels you want, cutting the rear away is not that bad if you can weld it back up yourself?

front is bolt on

the problem is, that fibreglass bits tend to fit = **** and needs loads of extra work. this bumps up fitting costs.

plus i had to mess on with door latches and such to make it all line up again afterwards, its do-able DIY i posted a massive thread in projects with every step i took along the way and loads of pics.....

so did you cut you rarches away then and what wheel size did you go for, how much different ae teh size to std

well what size wheel you want/need will probably depend on who made the kit as different ones seam to be different widths..


my wheels are et35 with 6mm spacers on the rear.

you would be better off getting a et 30 wheel rather then use spacers, infact you could probably use an et25 wheel on most wide kits, but you have to make do with the style of wheels that you like.

you can buy hubcentric wheel spacers (eibach)with longer wheel studs built into them so you can use your old subaru wheels, which is an option

i am running 18" wheels with 40 profile tyres, which is a larger size then stock, the tyres are considered the "wrong" profile for a classic, but do give extra comfort on rough roads, plus i have plenty of room under the wheel arches for them anyway, my speed appears to be a little bit out ;)

the reason why i did my car is that its now 12 years old, and try as hard as i could, it did start to rust on the rear arch lips, even with me cleaning the car 3/4 times a week (i own a car wash so its no trouble etc etc)

i figured i did not want a bodyshop fitting new metal arches to the car as it was a bit of a waste + i knew i would never be happy with the bodyshop work

i no longer have the rust, as i have cut it all off :D

minty has been doing the same conversion for a while now and he is running 19" rims on his with skoda fitment (same as the golf/audi that i am running)

if you look at andy forrests car, i think he is running 17" rims, but they are 10" wide :eek: and just manage to fit :D


ps. dont expect the front wings to just bolt straight on without issue either, mine needed loads of work, but they came from America so it was pointless sending them back (especially when customs raped me for them)

my rears + skirts and stuff came from the uk ;)

have to say though that it seems not very many people do the conversion, not as popular as i thought it would be

that's because they are all pussys and scared of cutting the car up ;) :S

mate just read the full write up and have to say hats off to you that was a brave move.
you seem to have slightly more experiance or confidence in doing the work yourself than i do but it has certinly given me the thought of giving ti a go, think i need to get some bigger balls first
