make your life easier, take the wheel off!

I need to do the same to lift the engine & gearbox all @ once...Ive been at it for 11 hours!

I took the wheel off but cant seem to get the nut off the middle of the disc....So tried it with the wheel on the floor....no good. Even tried with a pole over the bar for extra leverage....still not moving...

Anyone have any ideas as I think my neighbour has a hernia!!?

You just need to undo the 3 bolts holding the lower suspension arm on, takes about 2 mins, then just pull the shaft off of the Gearbox stub axle.

Make sure you knock the driveshaft pins out first though :thumb:

okay lovely....i'll try that tomorrow...

ZEN Performance 09 June 2008 09:07 PM

but then the driveshaft is still attached to the car, or are you removing the gearbox instead of the driveshaft?

Tucker82 10 June 2008 05:56 PM

well I only really wanted to remove it from the gearbox, but could do with removing it from the car...as I think one may be a bit knackered at the CV.

Any ideas how to get that enormous nut off??

I got the shaft out from the gearbox as SSCJAY said!!

Scoobyclinic use a huge air driven impact gun. Also you need to release the staking where it is hammered into the groove on the end of the shaft. I believe the nut is 32mm, it really needs impact shock rather than just leaning on it so you might get it off with a large bar and a 4lb club hammer but this is a bit crude.

Air tools it is then!
