What mod is next

right guys not sure what my next move is. ive just got a greedy boost controller fitted and im wanting to know what the next mod for me is, current list is as follows

full exhaust system
induction kit
ecutek
electronic boost controller (1.2 bar)

ojr600 01 May 2008 12:08 PM

It's gotta be a front-mounted intercooler, as that 1.2bar of boost will need some cooling to make it worthwhile! :thumb:

OJR.

dont wana do front mount wana keep as origional on the outside as possible. top mount aftermarkets intercoolers any gd.

Change the turbo then remap it again. Should see well over 300/300.

Bigger turbo e.g. VF35, remap with the boost controller set to about 1.35 bar would see a safe 320ish

Upgraded TMICs not generally worth it, only exception for sensible money is the STi 8 one, which is very good, but by the time you've paid for the custom fabrication to make it fit, and associated undertray, bigger bonnet scoop etc.. you may as well get an FMIC like the hybrid! How much do you want to keep things looking stock? :)

I went to an FMIC on my MY99, wouldn't go back to a TMIC.

Not a BIG Turbo!! :) Just bigger than the TD04

The std intercooler will be just about adequate at around what a VF35 can produce, but will struggle on hot days and after being stationary for any length of time.

Have a look at what I did to my MY99 (no cutting necessary at this stage)

Car will feel good at this level, but it may pay to get an ACT gauge to keep an eye on those temps.

Hi mate, i changed my turbo for a vf34, replaced the injectors for pink 550, walbro 255, full exhaust with both cats removed, Sti8 top mount and a ECUTEC remap to my 01 wrx and running 324bhp, just bought a greddy profec boost controller now, just wondered how hard to fit if done urself, any pics?

Jolly Green Monster 01 May 2008 10:32 PM

mapped a car on my00 tmic and vf28 today.. went very nicely.. road dyno showed 313bhp @ 1.3bar

Simon

hhh1234 01 May 2008 11:55 PM

no didnt fit it my self sorry.

the guy who would do all my stuff did a gd job fits nicly were the ashtray used to be. jolly green what power did it have at the wheels. as when i got my car rr before the boost controller and induction kit. it showed

287bhp at the flywheel
192bhp at the wheels.

was pretty shocked at how much power was lost, im just hoping they put the wrong calculation fig in to get flywheel power.

plus my mate has a leon cupra r and i still cant break free from him on a rolling start.

Jolly Green Monster 02 May 2008 12:09 AM

254.. I used 23% trans loss

hhh1234 02 May 2008 08:34 AM

254..... What torque has that got.

Sounds good. Can you elaborate on what mods the car had?:thumb:

Tidgy 02 May 2008 01:10 PM

mines kicking out 264bhp, vf34, front mount, indction kit, decat, oilcooler and autronics ecu :d (think thats it that i've done to the engine lol)

but i have also blown up a gearbox lol although think that was more wear and tear

hhh1234 02 May 2008 01:42 PM

is that 264 at the wheels tidgy, or at the fly, if at the fly that sound pretty light

hhh1234 02 May 2008 03:09 PM

was reading ur post there 'scooby 04' and i must say its a gd read, how much u spend in total then. ud def recomend the vf35

New_scooby_04 02 May 2008 03:25 PM

Can't honestly remember, assuming you're starting from scratch, buying all the parts new and not doing any of the work yourself, I'd figure on around 2-2.5k. But you've got quite a few of the bits fitted already, so significantly cheaper for you!

VF35 is the best spooling turbo for circa 320-330bhp and can be had much cheaper than a VF34.

Have a word with David at APi for advice

Tidgy 02 May 2008 04:29 PM

hehe, sorry was waiting for someone to question it :d

yep its at the wheels mat :D

its 341.something at the fly :D

when i had it done i wnet from 260 at the fly to 260 at the wheels lol

hypoluxa 02 May 2008 04:55 PM

My VF35 did 320 at the wheels :thumb:

have to agree, the punch when the turbo comes in is awesome, and also pulls right through to near red line (dont ever take it to red line when i drive it hard ;) so might even pull to red line lol)
