OMIGOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started reading this thread last night (as I'm on the verge of a rebuild)and only just finished it now. It was like a book but I didn't expect the ending to be so bad:cry: I was going to pm for advise but now I'll stay away! So sorry about the out come mate:cry: I thought it was just me that had that sort of luck! Respect:notworthy |
OH and I decided to go for a 2nd hand unit now lol.
|
faaaaaark :( oh well, onto the next one :)
|
Well, honestly it really was a learning experience, and it has now given me the confidence to not worry about blowing engines up, that I can always build another one. Good luck to all the budding engine builders out there, it really can be done at home in your own garage!
|
So sorry to hear the motor went to waste in the end mate, fortunately you are OK and living to tell us the story.
I look forward to seeing the next thread you do for your next Scoob Rebuild..... Baly |
GUTTED !!! i feel for you so much.....after all of that work. My mates wind me up saying that after all of the effort i have put into my cars i will do something like this.
Good luck with the future and thanks for your inspiration to take on something like this. |
Sorry to hear about the car mate, i was doing my rebuild at the same time as you.
Remember : https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...-few-mods.html I just sold my car and the new owner has taken it to the ring for a week and hes made it back so i guess the engine build was pretty good :-) Now i got a mondeo... and a ninja lol |
Well you're in a Mondeo, I'm in a 106 Rallye. £500 it cost me, revs past 7000 and it does 40mpg all day long, plus you can proper thrash it about. It'll do for the time being!

Hi
Firstly hello Nick (Silent) this is my first post on this site after buying my first Scoob a few weeks ago needing a bit of work done (including engine rebuild). Decided to dedicate my first post to you for the top thread and total dedication you have shown through out :notworthy, i was almost in tears when i read the final outcome, gutted for you.
I have just spent a good bit of last night and then most of today reading through and hopefully learning from your thread before tackling a simmilar job on my own car. It's not gonna be anything like the moddified work of art you managed to build, just a standard strip down, check and rebuild but it's something i've never done before (apart from refurbing and porting/polishing an old CVH head for one of my previous escorts) and i was a bit afraid to say the least lol. After reading through this i think i've now got a better understanding of just what is involved in doing the job and will certainly be refering to this as the build progresses. Appologies for the long winded approach lol but really appreciate you taking all the time and effort thats gone into the thread :thumb:. Hope you manage to get yourself back in another scoob soon. Like you said, the car/engine is just a thing.
What you have learnt and mastered will never leave you, plus all the inspiration ypou have provided to hundreds of peeps on here. **** happens, been there myself with engines only lasting 200 miles built by so called pros. My hat off to you sport...at least you are well, that's the main thing. Sean |
Can't believe people are still checking in on this thread - I'm so glad it's kept on inspiring people to have a go themselves! I went from someone who was kind of edgy about doing an oil change to knowing that if my current lump goes kaput, it's no sweat, I'll just pull the engine and rebuild it. There is nothing mystical about it, just take your time and have the right tools and you're there.
So to all those of you out there about to build your own engine - go for it and keep up the good work! |
Wots happened to the pictures, was using the thread as a guide to consider building it myself. any 1 know.

I might be able to answer if I wasn't blinded by your text :nono:

I thought this might happen one day... looks like the upload site I was using has emptied it all out and stopped hosting. I have no idea where the pics are now - sorry! Maybe a lesson for the future for SN - have some kind of permanent archiving facility for project threads like mine?
