9600 GT
Going to order a new graphics card as my 8500 GT as it seems to struggle in certain circumstances, current favourite is the new 9600 GT, dont want to spend much more than about £120, is that a good choice ?

IMHO worth going for an 8800GT... should be able to get one for about that price.

This might help you decide: 9600 gt benchmark
|
I was looking at the same and ended up with an 8800GT from Ebuyer for £130 - only £19 more than the 9600GT. Just installing the system now :)

Actually, some quite compelling benchmarks for the 9600GT there... close call. I'd still go 8800GT and overclock it a tad, and make it fly.
I'm lucky enough to have made this decision a while ago, before anything else in the price range appeared, so have an eVGA 8800GT SSC (running at some stupid clock speed, with daft ram speed to boot). Runs well.... but came in at over £200. |
just bought an Inno 3d 8800 GT Overclock, which is basically the Nvidia reference card with a Factor Overclock, £158 from the local computer shop after some haggling, will install it in a bit and report back.

That's what we like to see - from vague purchasing question to bought and installed in less than 6 hours... ;)

Card has transformed the experience, very fluid, can crank everything up tot he max at the monitors highest resolution, COD4 looks miles better, the smoke is very impressive, going to download the Crysis demo. Trouble is, makes me want a biggger monitor, never happy am I ? |
Enjoying my 8800GT I installed yesterday. It is a cheapo Inno 3D one (not the overclock one) and it looks like the final stable overclock will be to 640/2000 (600/1800 as standard so not a huge improvement).
|
Put the Crysis demo on, the graphics are awesome, 8800 GT lets you what it all up to the max as well.

for 120 - get an ati 3870

That wouldn't be sensible when an 8800GT for £130 or a 9600GT for £110 both offer better performance.
