Running with no dumpvalve

could anyone on here give me some info on how a car will behave if running with no recirc/dump valve???

Am thinking of removing it but would like to know if the car will behave differently ie tickover/smoothness/etc.

P.s car in question is a version 5 sti ra with autronics ecu/Turbo Dynamics GT30/frontmount/etc....

Thanks :thumb:

suggest you ask for this to be moved to gen tech or drivetrain:)

Jolly Green Monster 06 January 2008 10:25 PM

that turbo should be fine without it..

when you lift off it will stall the turbo blades and the air will pass back through the turbo.. makes a nice noise.. does stress the turbo but yours should be fine.

do it!

will the td04's and td05's be ok as well to blank off the dv cheers

Jolly Green Monster 06 January 2008 10:43 PM

TD05 yes.

TD04 in theory but never tried....

excellent is it just a case of whipping the old dv off and a blanking plate on to the intercooler? what happens to the little hose?

fraser87uk 06 January 2008 11:36 PM

blank em all off. Prepare to shorten the life span of your turbo though. And it will likely overfuel as well. should spit some flames out the rear. ultimately though there is a rearson that its on there. car will also feel slightly more jirky.

Jolly Green Monster 06 January 2008 11:40 PM

its like marmite... you will love or hate it

I suppose its easily reversible if i dont like it.......so the map will need a tweek when it is removed or can i run without it to see if i prefer it valveless.?

Car is going in for final mapping in a couple of weeks .......

Is there any other sound make due to different pressure (i dont mean the sound dompvalves make) just any other sound. For instance a different sound of spool or a sound when you let off (yet again not the pssttt lol)

Im running with no DV at the moment on a TD04, replaced my Intercooler with one from a 97/98 car and some new pipwork (as my original pipework broke)...

Don't like it, car is deffinatly more jerky and dips at idle.. Getting the pipework to return it too standard... Going to wait till I have a few more bob before i do anything more performance wise to my motor!

rooferman 07 January 2008 07:22 PM

Well have ordered a bung today so will give it a go.....

Yes have ditched the valve completely and am now fully mapped.....Get a loud flutter at low revs on gearchange now and at high revs (ie over about 4500/5000 and above)you get a loud screech, quite high pitched...

Add this to the 3" straight through system and the Antilag function on the Autronics .....:notworthy :norty:

A friend of mine who used to own a Tuscan and now has an M3 CSL was grinning like a schoolboy when i took him for a blast in it at the weekend.LOL...:lol1:

Thanks to Paul and team(Zen Performance)...

superdan 18 February 2008 07:38 PM

jd5217 19 February 2008 08:40 AM

blanked mine off a couple of weeks ago, love the fluttering.

GazTheHat 19 February 2008 01:42 PM

Can someone post some links to the bungs or how to actually do this. :wonder:

Actually the airflow stall off the blades, the blades don't stall, and air doesn't pass back through the turbo, its just above the surge line on teh compressor map.

Not good for the trubo, but the MHI's seem to survive it OK.

Seems to be a SN myth that all VFs can't take it. I'll be running my VF35 without a DV soon on the advice of a few well known peeps on here (I wn't name drop for once ;) )

Fingers crossed I won't be eating my words...or should that be 'it won't be eating my compressor blades?' ;) :D

Right this is what im after... ive got a turbo2000 my00, only mods are a backbox and dumpvale, any ideas if im going to be ok if i blank it off?? not too sure which turbo i have :wonder:

thanks chaps!

jd5217 19 February 2008 04:38 PM

blanking them off will shorten the life of the standard turbos.

David Harris 19 February 2008 04:38 PM

I've blanked my wagon TD04 off and love the chatter u get from the blades stalling, i know it'll send her to an earlier grave but all the more reason to upgrade sooner!. Old bob is running 1.5 bar through a TD05 fully blanked and apparently no problems at all. So far so good.

How robust is the MD321H JD? Did you get advice on this?

jd5217 19 February 2008 06:53 PM

i dont have an MD turbo

I have a GT30 hybrid from Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner similar spec to the MD321T

lunar tick 19 February 2008 07:50 PM

OK - sorry. Thought you were running the same combo as me (321H plus the funny fuel :norty: )

easyscoob 20 February 2008 07:25 AM

ok i 'm gonna do this as well. iv got a baileys on just now, and the big pipe already has a bung in it - cool, i take it i remove the dumpvalve alltogether and joey up some sort of plate to cover the intercooler, then find a bung for the vacuum pipe?
