understanding network cables!
 
can someone tells me whats the rj11 and the rj45 cables are?
and what are they really used for?

rj11 a telephone cable(router-telephone socket) and a rj45 a Ethernet cable(router-computer network card)

so in a router modem pack..

the cable that goes between the router and splitter(phone ) is a rj11
and the router to pc. is the rj45?

RJ11 is the adsl cable or cable that runs from router to splitter/filter. It is also the same shape to the modem cable found on your internal port on laptops etc. It is more commonly known as the american style cable.

RJ45 is the standard network cable and is usually CAT5 (ethernet). There is CAT6 and that is the same shape. This normally goes from the router to any devices and is also used in switches, hubs etc

rj45 is the classic cable for pcs to pcs??

is that a pc/hub to directly the filter?

yes, if you want to do peer-to-peer

you can get rj45 to rj11.they are more specialised instances...you are not trained for those :p :D

RJ45 to RJ11 most normally telephone cables for a PBX system that connects using a CAT5+ structured cabling system

Remember there are different types of RJ45 cable - Straight through (what youd use to connect your PC to your router), Crossover (what youd use to connect 2 pc network cards together) and Rolled (not often used at home but for connecting to aux and console type ports). Here is quite a good explanation on how to check what you have.
