Transmission Loss
Just been looking at the MLR and looking through some of the EVOs for sale.
What sort of transmission loss do them boys work on cause theres a Evo 9 for sale with 282.5 Bhp ATW which he's worked out to be roughly 380 at he fly :wonder: thats 35% loss :nono: Surely they must be a similiar loss to a Impreza ie around the 18% Mark? |
It's one way to make your fly figures look good down the pub i guess :thumb:
its more like 26%, its not as simple as x percentage there s a hug long calculation, but roughly speaking its 26%

yeah mate sounds about right, mines running 340 at the fly 260 at the wheels, or near as damit
SO the figure Subaru give.. is that at the wheels / flywheel?
if you mean the 276, thats at the flywheel
So 276 Divded by 1.26 gives u 219 ATW
279/100 * 74 = 204bhp
bear in mind thats a rough thing not exact |
The new-age ECUs actually work out a theoretical at-the-wheel figure, but I'm not sure how. On the run that gave me 390bhp flywheel on the rollers, the ECU reckoned 275 or so at the wheels. But as I said, I've no idea how accurate it is.

390/100 * 74 = 288 so not far off at all
Ok to further my question as im a bit daft :) If my car is quoted as 220ps on all scooby websites (import tdo4 wagon auto) is that at the wheels or the flywheel? Im guessing the flywheel ?
yeah it is at the fly, also ps isnt = to bhp though dont forget (although not far off)
Yeah but 22ps is what, rought 218 bhp or something daft like that, not a lot in it i knoow.. Cheers :)
heres a link to conversion figures , citroen no less, pmsl
c_converter_rates Page Bhp to KW 0.7457 KW to Bhp 1.3410 Bhp to PS (hp DIN) 1.0139 PS (hp DIN) to Bhp 0.9863 so 220ps = 216.986bhp |
Glad thats so simple ;)
it aint pmsl, thats just a very very simply way of working out whats realy a long winded calculation
:luxhello: My scoob has gained about an extra 20bhp just by reading this thread! :norty: :lol1: ;)

Because I was always told that transmission loss was around the 18% mark, if it's infact 26% then my bragging rights for my fly figure have just increased by around 20BHP ;) :D

I've had three sessions on the rollers (and used two different ones), plus have had umpteen delta dash runs (and had the car on a weigh bridge)....mine has always been around the 14-16% mark....
every scoob is different
mine was 272bhp at the wheels 2 weeks ago :) my mate put his on with a much bigger spec then me and got around 276bhp at the wheels with much bigger transmission losses |
